Ch 19: Strange Sickness

Gwen pov:
It's been three months since the tragedy of Leoness and I'm finally having some peace.
Whether it was from Arthur, Merlin, Gaius or even Morgana, who just knew about the fact that Leoness was my home, but they were leaving me alone.
I still recall Uther's harsh words that fateful night after the funeral

Flashback:
I walked to Uther's chamber still in tears after my father's funeral. I knock and wait a second until i hear a 'come' from inside.
Gwen: "you asked to see me my lord?" I say to the king in a curtsy
Uther: "Guinevere. First of all I want to tell you how sorry i am for all this. I feel his loss just as you"
Gwen: "thank you my lord"
Uther: "now, unfortunately there is a serious matter i wish to discuss. Your return to Camelot"
Gwen: "my lord, if it displeases you then i will not return with you...as i matter of fact I was thinking about staying"
Uther: "nonsense. You lost your home, your family. The least i can provide you with one of those things."
Gwen: "i thank you my lord for your kindness"
Uther: "you do understand of course that you will have to remain in your current position?"
Gwen: "yes...I understand completely"
I must say i wasn't a bit shocked at the news
Uther: "its just that...you no longer have a kingdom, therefore you're technically no longer a princess..." Is he trying to be insulting or does it come naturally... "I feel that it's for the best"
Gwen: "I couldn't agree with you more. Now if my lord permits me i must see to the people before we depart" he nods, i bow an then leave...
'Well...that went well..."
End of Flashback

After taking care of Morgana in the morning i went to pick some flowers for her to brighten up her mood...
She hasn't been sleeping very well and she always loves small gestures.
I was walking back to the castle when i spot Merlin and Gaius wheeling something in.
Gwen: "hello you two. What are you doing?"
Merlin turns and goes to the bottom of the wheelbarrow "oh, um- just moving something"
Gwen: "well it looks heavy"
Merlin: "oh...uh...someone got you flowers"
Gwen: "oh...no, aha. Would you like one?" Merlin just shrugs "here have a purple one...purple suits you" i hand him a flower from the bunch i have
Merlin: "well..."
Gwen: "of course red and blue also suit you"
Merlin: "thanks um..." He puts the flower on his scarf. "See ya later"
Gwen: "bye then" i wave at him as he an Gaius go off into the castle.
I go to Morgana's chambers with a smile still on my face
Morgana: "you look happy"
Gwen: "i picked these for you" i hand her the flowers
Morgana: "thats so sweet"
Gwen: "something to cheer you up, i know you haven't been sleeping well."
Morgana: "oh, well you cheer me up"
Gwen: "here let me put them in some water"
I go to get a vase and there was a knock on the door.
I hear some voices and i found out that Arthur is the one who came in.
Morgana: "Gwen can you come here please?"
I go back placing the vase on the table
Gwen: "yes" i look at Arthur "my lord"
Arthur: "Gwen, Gaius needs your help. There's a magical plague going through Camelot and he'll need all the help he can get."
Gwen: "oh well if it's alright with Morgana"
Morgana: "of course...go"
I go with Arthur to Gaius's chamber.
Arthur: "i have to go start the search"
Gwen: "okay"
I go inside and see exactly what Arthur was talking about...
The patient was already dead, completely pale with the blue streaks all over his face and his eyes were completely white...
Gaius: "ahh Gwen thanks for coming"
Gwen: "of course. So sorcery?"
Gaius: "i believe so"
Gwen: "I can't believe people would actually use magic for evil like that"
Merlin: "that's exactly what i was saying"
Gwen: "so Gaius what are you doing?"
Gaius: "examining the contents of that man's stomach" he was saying as he was twirling a flask over the fire
I scrunch up my nose "fascinating"
Merlin "will it tell you how to stop it?"
Gaius: "no but it might tell us how it's spreading"
The doors suddenly burst open and Arthur walks in with a bunch of guards "sorry Gaius we're searching every room in town"
Gaius: "whatever for?"
Arthur: "the sorcerer"
Gwen: "and why would the sorcerer be here?"
Arthur: "I'm jut doing my job"
The guards search everything and everywhere...
Gaius: "we have nothing to hide go on then search!"
Arthur looks at some books "what are all these books and papers?"
Gaius: "my life's work. Dedicated to understanding of science, you are quite welcome to read through them if you wish"
I laugh silently in the background at Arthur's expression. They keep searching and i slip away until they finish.
By nightfall the courtyard was filled with dead bodies under white sheets.
As i walk back home i start to ponder on how this disease is spreading...
Daniel was getting ready for ed wen i walked in "oh no i know that face...what's wrong?"
Gwen: "i was just thinking about this disease"
Daniel: "i know its terrible..."
Gwen: "i was wondering, if Gaius can't find a cure than maybe i can"
Daniel: "what do you have that the court physician doesn't Gwen?"
Gwen: "magic"
Daniel: "that is absolutely out of the question!"
Gwen: "Think about it! Haven't enough people died over this?"
Daniel: "you cant just walk around curing people Gwen! The guards are suspicious of everyone..."
Gwen: "I won't get caught Daniel, you know I'm always careful"
Daniel: "i know you are...but this time it's too risky. Promise me Gwen, you won't use magic to heal anybody...even if it was me..."
Gwen: "Daniel come on"
Daniel: "promise me Gwen"
Gwen: "fine...i promise"

The next day i woke up and got ready in a hurry anxious to tell Gaius my idea about how the disease is spreading...it has to be the water!
I was shocked when i saw that Daniel was still asleep...she usually gets up an hour before me...i go over to her and shake her gently "Daniel?"
She stirs and then turns towards me and I couldn't hold back a gasp as i saw her face was covered in blue lines "NO!"
I ran towards the castle blinded by my tears...i think i passed Merlin cuz i can hear him calling to me. I burst into Gaius's chambers  "Gaius please you have to help!"
Gaius: "Gwen what is it? Do you have the sickness?"
Gwen: "it's my sister! Please Gaius...she's all i have left!"
Gaius: "i have no cure" his voice was sad and regretful
Gwen: "I'm begging you!"
Gaius: "i wish there was something i can do. But so far the remedy is beyond what i can achieve"
Gwen: "i...i have to go" i turn and run out the door and head back to my house.
I spent the entire day and night with Daniel, Morgana wouldn't hear of anything else.
I kept begging Daniel to let me heal her...but she wouldn't let me...
Daniel: " i guess this is goodbye "
