Ch 25: Morgana's sleep

Gwen pov:
Times are hard...no one knows when bad things are going to happen...they just do. No warning...no knowledge...the bad just appears.
Morgana has fallen ill and hasn't waken up in two days. At first I thought it was natural but when i spent more time with her my necklace rang telling me that magic was involved! And since i do not know what exactly is wrong with her...I couldn't do anything to help her.
Gaius believed that she had an inflammation of the brain, but i knew better. There was something else at work here...something magical.

The third day came along and Morgana's condition worsened.
I sat next to her on her bed trying to keep her comfortable, though I wasn't sure if there was a point any more.
Gaius: "i can't preserve her life any longer. She has hours...maybe less" the king and Arthur were both here trying to talk to Gaius
Arthur: "we cannot let her die" he shouted
Uther: "Arthur please" his voice was sad and i could swear his eyes were tearing
I moved from Morgana's side so that Uther can occupy my place. I stood next to the window and listened
Arthur: "a man came to the castle yesterday, he claimed he can cure her"
Uther: "that's ridiculous, he doesn't know what is wrong with her"
Arthur: "he said he has a remedy to curse all ills"
Gaius: "impossible"
'Remedy to cure all ills means magic...without a doubt'
Arthur: "for Morgana's sake we should at least hear him out, i mean what have we got to lose. Please father"
Arthur's voice was sincere and soft. He really cared for Morgana, it was sweet.
Gaius: "probably someone hoping for a quick shilling"
'Gaius don't be so harsh'
Arthur: "I don't care, if she's about to die what harm will it do! Give him his shilling, if there's one chance in a million that he can save her then why not?"
Gaius only shrugged, obviously not liking the idea
Uther: "send for him"
I remained at Morgana's side. I kept talking to myself...wondering if she'll ever answer back.
Hour after hour I tried to cure her but couldn't do anything...i guess i have to hope that this man can do more than myself.
Later in the day as i was going back to Morgana's chambers i saw a man, who I assumed was supposed to cure her, hunched over her. But something made me uneasy about his presence. And then i felt it...my necklace was shining...he's using magic...but something was still wrong...
Man: "what are you doing there?!" He turns to me angrily
Gwen: "I'm her maid servant, is there anything you need?"
Man: "well then maybe some water"
Gwen: "of course, will you also need some yarrow?"
Man: "not necessary for my treatment"
Gwen: "do u need any kind of herbs?"
Man: "why are u so keen?"
Gwen: "i have some knowledge of the healing arts...so i thought...if you needed anything..." I say trying to sound innocent...
Man: "i see. Well thank you but all i need now is some water"
I just nod and leave to get some water.
By the time i got back; Morgana's chambers was full of people and she was awake! Uther was hugging her closely, Arthur stood at the foot of her bed smiling happily and Gaius was looking at her shockingly.
Gaius: "what did he give you?"
Morgana: "i have no idea, but thank the heaven he did"
I go over and help her sit up properly "I'm glad to see you're well my lady"
Morgana: "thank you Gwen"
Gwen: "I'll get you more water and towels so you can get dressed"

An hour later we were in the council chambers. Morgana was sitting at Uther's right and Arthur was to his left. I stood with Gaius and Merlin in the side while Edwin, the man who cured Morgana, was in front of the king.
Uther: "name your price"
Edwin: "i desire no more than the health of my patients sire" he says with a bow
Uther: "surely there is something i can do for you"
Edwin: "no no, i will wait until the lady Morgana is fully recovered and then i will be on my way"
Uther: "why don't you stay a while? You could live here in the palace"
I was a bit taken back at Uther's offer but then again he did save Morgana...but i still didn't trust him
Edwin: "no, i feel i would be trespassing, and you already have a court physician."
Uther: "I'm sure Gaius wouldn't mind the help"
'Just shows what you know Uther' i thought to myself
Edwin: "it is a kind offer but..."
Uther: "think about it, dine with me later and tell me your decision"
Edwin: "to dine with your majesty would be a reward in itself" he bows again and leaves.
.......
The next day, Uther instructed Edwin to look over Gaius's work and records. He seemed to be doing just that but i tried to keep my eyes on him...something about him made me uneasy...
By noon he seemed to be almost done with his scanning so i decided i should quietly leave.
i close the book i was reading and head out the door but sneak a glance behind me to make sure i wasn't being followed. Not looking in front of me i crashed into someone in the entrance.
Gwen: "I'm sorry i wasn't looking"
"That's quite alright" the voice made me freeze as the blood in my veins all but vanishes. I look up at Edwin who was smirking at me. "Hello Guinevere, what brings you here?"
Gwen: "i-i just thought you might need something so i..."
Edwin: "so you thought you would spy on me?"
Gwen: "I wasn't spying i was just..." He cuts me of by coming too close to me
Edwin: "a girl like you has no business being a servant"
My eyes widen scared that he knew my secrets "wh-what do you mean?"
Edwin: "your beauty is unique"
I sigh relieved at his words and try to think of something to say "i really should be going...I...since you don't need anything"
Edwin: "I'll let you know when i do"
I Just nod and run out of the room. My pace was fast and my mind was blurred resulting in me crashing again into someone.
Gwen: "I'm so sorry I wasn't looking" i say from the floor
"It's aright Gwen" i look up and see a smirking Arthur 'oh great'
Gwen: "Arthur...i mean my lord..." I get up and dust my gown "I apologize"
Arthur: "don't worry about it. Are you alright?"
Gwen: "why do you ask that?"
Arthur: "you were in a hurry and your face is very stern. Did something happen?"
I ponder over on whether i should tell him or not... "Nothing i was just late for tending Morgana...i should go" i mumble out and leave.
