BEFORE

Charlotte felt tiny droplets of water graze her skin. She struggled to move as though the life had been sucked out of her. She fought back to open her eyes and all the while she heard a voice. A voice that called out to her.

"CHARLOTTE WAKE UP WAKE UP WAKE UP -" she felt as if someone had poured the whole of river Ganges over her face,"CHAARRLOTTEEEE."

A startled Charlotte gasped for air as she sprang back to life.

"All we did was run Char-"

Avery kept a hand on her stomach to relieve the pain from her laughter.

"-you should have seen Finstock's face. Oh my God -ha hah ha ha ha- he thought you were dead girl."

Charlotte looked down at herself. She could feel her chest heaving, her heart racing and her fingers grazing the tracks frantically.

Still confused, she slowly composed herself to get up and go sit the next lap out. She made her way to the Girl's room and stared at her reflection in the mirror. Her brunette hair all tangled and her face pale-like she saw a ghost come of of thin air.

What is happening to me?  She asked herself.

She set her disheveled hair and washed her face. As she made her way out of the girl's locker room, Finstock called-rather roared- out "ROOOSSE".

"Hey coach, what's up?"said Charlotte with heavy breaths.

Finstock crosses his hand between his chest and taps his foot on the tracks. He spoke too calmly, almost whispering "Are you feeling okay Charlotte?"

Showing all obvious signs of uninterest she said, " I don't feel good coach, I need a time out for a fe--"

PHEWWWWWW

Zzzzzzzz. That's all her ears could hear after Finstock's whistle blew.

"Coach, but I really ne-" PHEWWWWW.

" CAN YOU JUST LET ME TAA- PHEEEWWW- LLK" frustration hit her hard.

PHEWWWW. Again.

PHEWWWWWW. Oh God.

" OKAY FIIIINEEEEEE" she finally gave in.

"Don't give me attitude, darling. I have one of my own. Now get back to the game. Chop chop." And Finstock was out with his whistle.

Finstock has been her Coach slash Econ teacher since forever. He looks okay for a coach with his okay body and okay looks. Everyone called him the 'okay man'. To him sarcasm isn't just a method of breaking down others positively but rather it was like his life became sarcasm and he became a big ball of it.

A big ball of sarcasm.

 #onlyokaythings.

Charlotte went back to the locker room to get her number 24 jersey for the practice game. She freshened up a bit to keep herself hydrated during the game and well, to get by today. The sport at Alpeen High was Lacross and Charlotte was pretty good at it. Well, if you'd say that being the youngest player to make captian as 'good' then yeah.

The whistle went off.

Charlotte was first line today and the game had begun. Her head still blaring from the aftermath of the dark lapse of time before and her body shivering from the sudden rise of mist.

She dodged Kyleen and cut off Ellie. And swiftly like she always do, she went on.

Her mind had always been clear during a game. It guided her like she had the game perfectly mapped for the win. And she always did.

She only had to make One goal in ten seconds to win the game. the crowd chanted through the air around.

And the countdown began.

One...

Two...

"CHARLOTTE CHARLOTTEE.." The crowd was roaring showing all their support towards the girl.

Seven...

"Come closer,  Charlotte"  cold waves of shiver swept through her spine. The familiarity of the voice was uncanny.

Nine...

"GOAAALL"

The crowd came down running from the benches and fled towards her in unison to share the victory of the team. There was music in the air and celebration around.

The voice that followed her everywhere shook her to the core making her her do the one thing she promised herself she would never do.

She ran to the woods.

She ran away from the world yet again.
