-JoshI watched as the car skidded down the road. I just stood there, watching until I couldn't see it anymore. I wasn't angry, I was confused. Never in our years of friendship had Melanie ever acted like this. And why was she running. Running from me. Questions continued to bubble up my mind as I stood in the middle of the road in silence, Brendon watching me from a distance. I jumped as I heard a loud horn behind me followed by an angry voice.
"Get off the road you dickhead!" yelled a man from his car window, around his fifties he would have been.
I nodded quickly and walked off the road and towards the house. I ignored Brendon's questions as I proceeded to walk through the side gate and out into the backyard. After calling my name several times, he'd given up and walking inside to get a beer. I shrugged and walked over to the old tree with an older swing hanging from a branch.
I just sat there, thinking.
It had been hours of me just letting the cold air numb my face, the smell of old pine surrounding me and the light chirp of birds singing filling my ears.
I'd lost track of time completely, so when Brendon came stumbling into the back yard, running towards me with the hugest smile he could pull.
"Josh!" He yelled excitedly as he hopped up and down in front of me.
"What?" I laughed lightly, was he drunk?
"Melanie's back!" He said shaking my shoulders, a smile appeared on my face.
"Great cause I was getting wor-" but then he cut me off.
I stared at him in disbeleif. The words repeating over and over and over again.
"W-What?"I stuttered, my smile had faded and my eyes were wide.
"She found him! She found Tyler! Their in the living room now!"
I swung out of the swing and bolted towards the house. I stumbled up the stairs several times, my heart was beating in my ears. I practically broke down the kitchen door.
"Tyler! Melanie?!" I yelled.
I opened the living room door.
They turned towards me. She looked gorgeous as always, her smile glistened and her eyes shined.
He, however, looked sad, almost guilty. I ignored it. I stomped over and hugged him, I hugged him so hard it would break my ribs if I'd hugged any harder. He immediately hugged back. I heard a sob escape my mouth and I just broke down, I cried heavily into my long lost brothers sweater.
"Sor-sorry." I sniffled when pulling away.
I wiped my eyes with my sleeves. I smiled brightly, he copied my action.
"I missed you little brother." He nodded.
"I've been waiting big brother." I laughed. He shrugged and put his hands in his pockets.
"I've been a little busy."
That's when I noticed the girl standing next to him, she looked so happy. She wore plain yet bright clothes, had bright baby blue eyes and golden hair. I furrowed my eyebrows at her, what was she doing here?
"Oh, so rude of me. Josh, this is my wife, Jenna." My eyes widened.
Wife? Since when?
"It's so nice to finally meet you Josh! Tyler is always talking about you." She said as she gave me a quick hug.
I decided to shake it off and complemented her hair. My attention was then drawn to the sound of a door closing, the front door. Melanie was gone. We all turned around, my eyes widened. I watched as she looked back towards the house with tears crippling down her face. I ditched tyler and Jenna and told them to stay here. I ran. I ran after the small girl. She ran faster.
"Melanie stop!" I yelled at the top of my lounges. she looked behind her, at me. Then she started running faster.
"No! Leave me alone Josh!" she screamed before turning a corner.
I didn't listen, I ran after her. The street we were running down, I didn't recognise. But I kept going, despite the fact I was out of breath. A scream filled the air. She was on the ground, I knelt down next to her.
"Melanie what's wrong?" I said, she looked at me with bloodshot eyes.
"PLEASE! Forget about me josh! please, just forget I ever existed!" She yelled, her lip quivered.
She winced in pain again, I looked down. Blood was poring all over her, from her hands and knees. Without hesitation, I ripped a piece of my shirt of and began wrapping around her hands, she just sobbed and winced.
"W-Why are you doing this?"She sobbed.
"Because I love you Melanie. I will never forget you." I whispered, she shook her head and cried harder.
I hugged her into my chest, running my fingers through her hair.
"No, no, no, no. Why do I always fuck everything up!" she said harshly, I lifted her chin up to look at me.
"You don't Melanie. Just tell me whats wrong...please." She shook her head again.
"I can't. Just please, forget about me while you still can. Go to your brother, be happy. You deserve all the happiness in the world, a world without me in it."
"what are you talking about."
She hesitated. She looked down at her hands.
"I'm leaving this town... And I'm never coming back."
"WHAT?! YOU CAN'T!?" I yelled.
"Josh... Forget me."
"NO."
"Please Josh... let me go."
"NO MELANIE!... please... I love you."
She shook her head again, a sad smile appeared on her face.
"You can't, Im not loveable. Im sick of being in a land full of Gods and monsters, I should be a free angel. Don't you want me to be?"
"You already are. You've been mine and all your friends angel for our entire lives." Tears spilled.
"Josh, honey. I got your brother so you can be happy."
"I was already happy! Please, don't go!" I sobbed into her chest, she kissed my forehead softly.
"I have to... I'm sorry."
She got up off the ground and turned around to walk away. I grabbed her arm as I stood up.
"Why are you doing this."
"I'm a night mime."
