Maya's POV

"I need you to meet me at our favorite spot on Coney Island Beach. Don't ask me any questions just meet me there at 7PM close to sun down. We need to talk." - Lucas

I looked down at my phone as this text message from Lucas that flashed across the screen. What does he possibly want to talk to me about? I knew he wouldn't ask me to meet him there if it wasn't important so I did what he said to do and even though I was terrified that he wanted to break up with me, I didn't ask any questions. I walked to where our favorite secluded spot was. It was where we always went to get away from everyone. There was never anyone in this area which made the worry in my gut go in knots. As I got closer I could see Lucas leaning against a picnic table staring out at the peaceful water. I could tell just by looking at him that he was nervous about something the closer I got. He looked up and saw me coming his way, he didn't smile at me like he usually would, but he also wasn't frowning. It was just an empty expression that was unreadable.

"Hey." I said in a shaky voice as I stopped in front of him. I couldn't even look at him in the eye without getting over emotional because I know what this is. He's being too obvious. "What's going on, why did you ask me here?"

"You may want to sit down for what I'm about to tell you Maya." He gestured for me to sit. I chose to sit on top off of the picnic table with my feet dangling off the side. Lucas stood right before me and I knew right this second that this isn't going to be a happy talk.

"Okay I'm sitting." I paused. "So what's this about?

"I really don't know how to tell you this, but my parent decided that we need to move back to Texas." He stopped for a moment. Even for this brief moment, I felt my heart breaking.

"What?" I asked. My emotions were starting to get the best of me already. "Why? This can't be happening."

"I'm sorry, Maya. I tried reasoning with them, but this is what they're set on and I can't change their mind." He replied in a really soft tone as he cupped my cheek with his hand. "I don't want to leave you. I would never want this. I love you, Maya."

I looked up at him when he said that. That's the first time he's said this since we started dating. I'm not sure if that made me happy or if it hurt, considering the situation.

"You what?" I asked.

"You heard me." He paused. "I don't need to repeat myself."

"I love you, too Lucas." I replied and I could tell any second from now I was going to break.

"Please don't cry. We'll always find our way back to each other." He said as he wiped my tears away with his thumb. "Let's enjoy our last night together."

I honestly couldn't take it anymore. I yanked him over to me by his shirt so he was standing between my legs. For the first time since I got here, this is the first we've truly looked into each other's eyes and all I could see in his was hurt. I pulled him in further and kissed him. His hands traveled down and rested on my thighs. I could feel him smiling into our kiss. Which only made me want him more. I bucked my hips into him as I wrapped my legs around him. He groaned into the kiss. I could feel his hand making it's way up my skirt, normally were extremely careful about taking things this far, but I honestly don't care right now. My hands traveled down to his pants and unbuttoned them. He pulled away and just looked at me. I nodded at him letting him know this is what I wanted and I wasn't changing my mind. I lost my virginity to him..on a picnic table. Place may have not been ideal, but I don't regret what just happened. Lucas laid a blanket he brought with him on the sand. We were lying on the blanket and he had his arms securely wrapped around me and had his face nuzzled into my neck. The more we laid there, the more it got my head running that this is one of my last moments with Lucas. I never thought the day of losing him would happen. Without realizing it I had began crying. He sat up and just looked at me with sympathetic eyes.

"Maya, what's wrong? Did I hurt you?" He asked with concern in his eyes.

"No, I'm fine." I paused while looking out to the water. "I mean I'm not happy about any of this, you leaving."

"Do you think I want this? I don't." He stopped because he knew I wasn't looking at him. He took his hand under my chin and guided me to look directly at him. "Considering what we just did, do you really think I want to leave you?"

"It's just I hope you realize this could be the last time we'll ever see each other." I sighed while leaning into his hand.

"Maybe, maybe not. We don't know what the future holds for us. This won't be the last time we see each other though. We can text, call and even FaceTime." He explained as I laid my head on his chest. "I don't want this to be the end of us."

"Lucas, you know just as well as I do that having a long distance relationship will never work. You know as soon as you leave tomorrow, we're over. Sure we'll talk for a few weeks on end, but after a while it's going to be rare that we do talk. Why hold on to something that we know will never work?" He didn't say anything at first because he knows I'm right.

"We can get through anything if we're in this together. It seems like you just want to give up on us." It almost sounded like he was starting to cry which made my heart drop.

"We can try. There's no telling what will happen though, we need to prepare to let go if that time ever comes." I looked up and kissed him softly on the lips.

After a few hours we got ourselves together and went home. This was the last time I'll see him and that's what broke me.

Twelve Years Later

Lucas POV

I was walking the streets of Manhattan after not being here for 12 years and at my every turn something would remind me of Maya Hart the girl who I never stopped loviong after all these years. As I turned the corner of the street I was walking on a sign caught my eye that said "Sundance Cafe" on it. I decided to stop in to get a bite to eat. As I walked into the place I noticed it wasn't too busy. There at the the counter sat a child who had their backpack and book in front of them. I looked over and saw a sign that read "Please seat yourself" so that's what I did. I picked a corner table and sat there to be waited on. The kid looked up from their book and locked eyes with me.

"Mom! You have a cusotmer" they yelled.

"Coming." yelled a voice that I would know from anywhere.

I looked up just as Maya Hart was making her way out of the back room. She locked eyes with me, got a shocked expression on her face, and stopped right in her tracks when she saw me.
