Cybel's family; if it had to be described in a single word, it would be eccentric. Her dad's favorite hobby was hoarding anything and everything while her mom's was to worry, be it about the neighbors or a person appearing on the television living in the other part of the world. And then there was Cybel, the Rebel. For every little thing she was asked to do, there had to be a minimum of ten questions strung to it. Boy, would she come up with them before you could even snap your fingers.
And then there was Drumster, their Labrador.
It was the month of March, and Glum's Path was scorching and withering as ever. But it also meant that her best friend Alex would become a legal adult. In their part of the world, turning an adult was more than just legal rights. It meant a huge burden of responsibilities and getaways as well. Ceb still had a few months left before she joined the club, unsure if it was going to be another roller coaster ride or a disaster.
Ceb had planned her best friend's birthday perfectly. She had a list of things she would need but she would have to do it on her own. She was unsure if she could manage it all on her own. Her parents were hopeless when it came to matters like these. In fact, more than once, she wondered if she wasn't adopted. Her parents had almost everyday of their life planned out. She wouldn't understand why anybody would want their lives to be so indifferent. They were a well off family and never had trouble except on days when her father's boss would keep him waiting on his salary.
Ceb wondered if she should ask her dad to drop her to the market but she knew it would go in vain. She could foresee his answer "Why do you want to waste money on something so insignificant as a birthday. No I am not taking you anywhere, young woman."
She sighed. It was time for her to step out of her little cocoon.
