In Cybel's part of the world, a girl leaving the house on her meant a big deal. Even if it was after adulthood. Ceb had already asked her mother repeatedly the reason for the injustice. But her mom would just shoo her away saying "That's just the way things have been, Ceb, don't argue." Her mother would obey her husband without questioning his commands. Ceb wondered it if it was just another tradition she was following or if it was out of respect. Her mom was a fragile person with bad lungs. She had had a chronic cough since a while now but her father never bothered taking her to a doctor. Her mom would rather be uncomfortable than argue. All these little things annoyed Ceb to such an extent that she would sometimes be on the verge of breaking into tears.
Two days prior to Alex's birthday, she decided she would go to the market on her own. She took out her bicycle and as expected was met with astonished gazes. The things she would do for that unworthy piece of matter, she sighed.
She parked at Brewberry's, her favorite bakery. She had planned to get a customized cake of football, since he could play soccer even before he could walk. It was something that breathe life into Alex's life. Ceb sometimes envied him, that there was always something he could escape to, even though he didn't need to do it so often. The baker seemed annoyed to have to deal with a girl who could be of his daughter age and arrogantly dismissed her after taking down her order. Thousands of questions popped up in her mind. But she pushed them away. Alex was the first priority for now.
She crossed the road and parked near the party themed shop, bought all that she would need and was met with almost the same attitude as from the baker. This time it didn't bother her. In fact she felt like a victor as she had actually managed it on her own. She instead returned his nasty behavior with a smile and wished him a good day.
Now all that was left was for her to buy a gift and she settled on the autobiography of his favorite player.
Cybel was now almost cashless and that meant no more Chicken Pop Corns or Caramelized Sausages at the Spicy Box. The thought almost bought tears to her eyes.
