They're Really Out to Get Me

Chapter Six

My cell phone rang and I sat up, startled. Who could be calling me? I look down to the right at my phone. No one was calling me. Did I just imagine someone trying to contact me? I did. This is ridiculous.

The words from the last text message I received still ran through my mind. What did it mean by "do not trust them, they"?

I stood up and walked over to the window to see that it was the afternoon. How long did I sleep? It seemed to have stopped raining, though, so I could see the orange sky leak its light into the room. However, unlike normal days, the light didn't seem warm and comforting. It seemed as though it would try to eat me, and swallow me into a deep abyss.

Now my phone was actually ringing, and I sprinted to it. It was Elizibeth. Thank God! I've been aching to talk to another person.

"Hey, Ell!" I exclaimed.

"Sky, I'm coming over," she was so direct in saying this that it caught me off guard. "I haven't seen you, and I want to! I miss you, sis."

"Yeah! Sure. Come on over," I said.

"Good! See you in five!" She hung up the phone. I was finally going to see another human face to face!

I'm sitting at my dining / working table waiting for a knock on the door, when suddenly I got just what I asked for. I check the program that is wired to the camera outside, but I don't see her on it. Could I have positioned it in a terrible position? Was I just that foolish? I told her that I had set up a camera in the plant in the hallway, and to wave at it. I tried to make it sound like a joke, but really I was embarrassed.

Ell walked over to the plant and waved to it. I could tell she felt foolish for doing so, but she still smiled and looked happy to hear my voice in person. "C'mon, Sky. We've been friends for years. Since freshman year when you started calling me Ell," she said through the door.

"Just give me a minute, Ell. I'll open the door!" I ran to the bathroom and quickly washed my mouth out, and brushed my hair. I looked like a wreck, but I'm sure she'd be fine with it. She has, after all, seen me at my worst times. I was just about to open the door when I thought about the webcam on my computer. What if someone had been watching my screen while I typed all of this? What if they saw everything, and that's how they knew to say what Elizibeth said? What if they're using her to get to me?! What if everything is a lie? What if- what if she's not really here?

I can hear a furious knocking at the door and someone trying to open the door by turning the knob constantly and rapidly. I screamed a high pitch scream and pleaded for help as I back away from the door.
