Chapter Three
I exit the bathroom and again pass by the window and kitchen, and head forward out the door. Something still doesn't feel right, though. I can't seem to shake the feeling. I hesitate to open the door. "Skyler Kiarra Barker, you need to go outside," I tell myself. "You have so many friends. What happened to you? What happened to the girl who would go out to a party every week? What happened to the fun, outgoing girl you were just four months ago?" I asked.
I decided I needed to leave. Even if it was just for a few minutes. I slowly began to open the door, but I still couldn't shake that feeling of apprehension. Something evil is going to happen. I just know it. I bet I'm just getting this feeling for not having talked to anyone in a few months.
I looked down the brightly colored hallway and slowly, and softly shut the door behind me, making sure not to make a loud noise. I tip-toed down the hallway and made a left turn to go down the first out of the two flights of wooden and well decorated stairs, then continued down the second flight of stairs. As I come down, I look around the gorgeous room filled with beautiful paintings, busts, furniture, and a sleek, beautiful piano.
Something still felt wrong. The room had an eerie feel to it; a dark and fear inducing feeling.
I creep to the wooden front door with a crystal clear decorated glass window on it, and exit the building. A chill runs through my spine, though it wasn't even remotely cold. Its just the wind, I think to myself. I need to shake this feeling off now. Manhattan seemed dark, as if something was hanging over it. It's that damn feeling of apprehension. It's just that night-time wind that sweeps through the city.
I'm not staying outside. I decide I'll just make that phone call up in my apartment.
I rush back upstairs, but still be careful as to not make a noise, and enter my apartment again. I make sure to lock the door shut. It's time to make that phone call. I raise my phone up, unlock the screen, and search for Elizibeth Ash Hanley, my best friend. I absolutely cannot wait to hear the sound of another human voice. I tapped on her contact and put my phone up to my ear as the phone rang.
"SKYLER!" Yelled out her familiar voice. I smiled at hearing the sound of her.
"Where are you?" I asked.
"I'm at a party at Logan's house," she responded. Wow. Logan Bradford. I paused, thinking of him. He has beautiful blue eyes, with dark brown - almost black - hair to contrast them with his light, but slightly tan smooth skin, and shaved beard, but with light stubble. "Hello? Earth to Skyler!" Elizibeth snapped me back to reality.
"Sorry, I was just trying to remember his face," I said apologetically.
"It's fine. I know how you get when thinking of him," I could hear her smiling. "Anyway, where the hell are you, and where the hell have you been? I haven't talked to you in forever!"
I looked around my apartment, feeling guilty. "I've been in my apartment for about four months now," I said, sounding remorseful.
"Come here! Come party! You always used to! C'mon, I'll come get you!"
"I'll pass.. I'm not so sure I wan't to party now," I explained. "And you are drunk. Ell, you're slurring your words." Ell was what I called her ever since freshman year in college when we became friends. "Just go back to the party, and make sure you get home safely," I basically pleaded. She was like my sister. I couldn't afford to lose her.
She sighed. "Fine, but you need to get out and have fun like the good old days! Bye, love," she said. Those were her last words as she hung up the phone.
