Bad Blood

One of Two Options

I run to my mother. She has papers from her chest to her chin. I yell,"Mom! Ma!" She looks over and says,"Hey there pup! How was school?" I smile as she pets my head. I explain how today I started hearing things I couldn't before. When I finish my mother squints at me and she says,"Let's go inside before we start thinking." I grab a stack of papers from her and we walk inside. We walk into the kitchen and she says,"Well there is one of two things happening. Either you are growing out of a pup into a real one of us! Or you are developing a new sense. Either one is good news! I will call one of our doctors to check you out. I can smell Annie here so please don't keep her waiting." I nod with a million dollar smile on my lips. I bolt back up the stairs and slam the door closed. Annie is still sitting on my bed with her phone in her hands. She looks up as I plop next to her on the bed. I sigh and say,"So there is one of two options. One is that you like Jullian and the second is that you like Leon!" She blushes a little so I know I struck a nerve. I wicked smile creeps its way across my face. I roll onto my back and do a bridge. I look at Annie from upside down and say,"Come on and be dauntless for a change! Kiss the guy! So what if it's Jullian! You might scare him but who else is he gonna go to? We are his only friends!! And if it's Leon then he has no friends either, I mean like come on.... he is a loser he can't make any other friends!" She giggles and says,"Okay yea your right! Maybe I will kiss him! Maybe I will find out if I really do like him by kissing him!" I roll back over onto my stomach and ask,"Did you ask Jullian about Friday?" She looks around and says,"N-no I didn't." I smile and slide out my phone. I call Jullian and in less then one ring he picks up and says,"Hello darling how may I help you?" I wish I didn't but I feel heat rush to my cheeks. I try to extinguish it and I ask,"Well I was curious, what are you doing Friday night?" A second passes and he replies,"Hmmmm... well besides trimming my grandma's roses I don't think I have anything." I smile and say,"How long should trimming roses take?" He answers immediately,"Like an hour if it's only me." I ask him,"If I where to cut roses with you would it take 30 minutes?" I hear him give a small laugh,"Yea that's how math works." I then state,"So if 3 people where to join you then it would go by really quick?" He says,"Yup!" I sigh and say,"Sweet then Leon, Annie and I will go to your house after school and help you cut some roses! Then we will head down to my house for a sleepover!" He breathes for a second,"Okay sounds like a plan!" I hang up after saying goodbye. Annie is busy texting on her phone when I take her by surprise and tackle her. She screams and then breaks into a fit of laughter. Annie asks me,"So how do you even cut roses?" I answer her,"I think we are cutting out all the dead ones." She nods and I sneakily take away her phone. She notices immediately and starts to bark at me,"Hey!! Give that back!!" I notice that she has been texting Leon for the past 30 minutes or so. I say,"Okay here!" And I throw the phone at her. She says somewhat quietly,"Ouch," and looks red when she sees me making a double chin and wiggling my eyebrows. We laugh our way through the night. When it's time for her to leave she tells me that she will call me later. I wave her goodbye and my father rests his hand on my shoulder. He says,"The doc should be here in an hour or so." I begin to sweat a little. The doctors are a bit scary for people like us. The doctor I use is a bit more scary then most. I wait in the living room and do some homework. I sigh and looks at all the math homework I still have to do. A thought pops into my mind. Maybe Jullian can help me! I dial his number and this time he answer after a little while. He says,"Sorry Aysel I can't talk right now I'm... busy." I say,"Oh okay I will call you later then! Bye!" I hang up and cross out Jullian as an answer. I would call Leon but he stinks at math and Annie is at dinner. I sigh and surrender. After a while the doorbell rings. My mom welcomes the scary doctor into our house. He looks like a giant bear! Which makes sense considering he is one of us! I walk over to him and he pats me on the head. He says,"Hello Aysel Redwood! I apologize for the wait! I was with another patient in this town haha." I smile and he says,"Let's go to the living room." I show him the way and I flop down on the couch. He sits on the floor and we begin the examination. He looks at my gums first and then my hands. He checks my blood and my heart. When he finishes he looks stunned. He asks me,"How old are you?" I reply,"I'm 13 but I will be 14 pretty soon!" He nods and says,"Let me talk to your parents." He comes back with my parents a minute later and he says,"Well Aysel... I gonna ask you to sit down! This may come as a shock."
