The rest of the school day is quiet, same petty insults. When I leave my last period class, History, Kakashi refused to let me go to the compound. "You need to rest. Go home," I sigh as roll my eyes. "Whatever," I turn away from the compound and towards my apartment.
It was a new two story building with two large apartments on each story. You could call them condos due to how big they are. I lived on the first floor in the leftmost condo. I trudge to the front door and fumble with my keys until the door opens.
I enter and flop on my couch. I quietly finish homework when I hear the tinkling of a small bell. I raise my eyebrows and follow the sound to the kitchen. My apartment had a dumb waiter and that's where the sound came from.
I slide open the tiny door and see a tray with rice and salmon on it. There is a little card that says 'I made too much and had leftovers I didn't need ~2B' I smirk and pull the dinner out. I ate the rice and salmon and wash the bowl and plate.
I take a piece of cake out of my fridge and place it delicately on the plate. I put the clean bowl and cake plate onto the tray and wrote a small note. 'Washed the dishes already. Thanks for the good food ~1B'. Then I use the pulley on the inside to elevate it. Once the rope stopped, I tugged on a string which rang the bell on his dumbwaiter.
I stick my head in the opening and see some faint light that came from is apartment. I hear a low, rumbling chuckle and the door slide close. I get out of the clearing and slide the door shut as well. I smiled to myself remembering that I had no idea who lives in that apartment and he probably doesn't know who live here either.
I lean up against the wall for a moment and smile softly. I resume my night, watching some TV and listening to music. When I feel myself start to doze off, I pad over to my room and climb into my plush bed.

The next day went by with no issue. This time Kakashi actually lets me go to work but not take on any missions. I assign cases to hand picked teams until nightfall. Then, I wander out into the common area and get something to eat.
I sit at a round table with my macaroni, jello, and 2% milk. As I put a forkful of deliciousness in my mouth, someone sits across from me. I look up slightly to find Kakashi with a plate of food. "Hey," I say before shoving the fork in my mouth. He nods.
"Over the weekend we need to renew our alliance with the Akatsuki, so you know the drill," I nod. Ever so often, the second in commands greet each other and resign some agreements. Good thing I don't mind being around their second, Konan. She's calm, collected, and straight up drop-dead gorgeous.
Ugh, I still can't figure out how her skin is so smooth and clear. I'm thinking witchcraft at this point. Every time I see her, not a single blemish. I grumble to myself a little. "Beside the point, how are you healing up?" my head pops up. I shrug and nod. "I think I'm doing okay," I lift the sleeve of my shirt up and look and my skin.
"It looks much better than it did the first day," he notices. I thought popped into my head, "Say, where's Nara?" He looks up trying to remember. "I think he should be in the holding room," I nod and throw away the rest of my dinner.
I shuffle down the hall and to the holding room. I knock three times and open the door. I see him visibly tense up. "Don't get your drawers in a twist, it's just me," I say sarcastically. He relaxes a bit. I pull a chair up and sit adjacent of him.
"I'm guessing the guys gave you quite the welcome, right?" I start. He nods immediately. "Yeah, sorry about that. They were just worried about me. That's all," he looks at me for a while and I could tell there is a question on his mind. I sigh, "What do you want to know?"
"Who are you to them?" I blink a few times and lean back in the chair. "Besides their commanding officer, I'm basically the reason they're still alive," his eyes widen and he leans forward.
"Almost every single person in Kage was found in a dire situation. Half of them were dying of starvation when I found them. I offered them help and a home. The first few asked if they could join me and of course I said yes. As we picked up more people, we offered them a choice of whether they wanted to join us or not. We expanded across different cites and formed branches in each. They people we didn't save found out about us and wanted to join," I explain.
"So why do you guys take these jobs?"
"Well for some of us, these jobs are the only thing we can do. Others enjoy the benefits and some do it because they know that there is a reason for each job below the surface," He nods, soaking in all of the information.
I pull my legs up on the chair, "Now my turn for questions," I smirk.
"Okay, shoot,"
"Do you know how to fight?" He gave me the so-so gesture, "Not anything fancy just self defense,"
"Do you know how to use any weapon?" He looks up. "I don't think so,"
"Do you have a good memory and are you smart in your opinion?" He nods, "I've been told I have a pretty good memory and my teacher made me take an IQ test one time and I scored 200," My eyes widen. I didn't even know you could score that high.
I nod, "Thanks, I'll send you on a couple of missions before determining what division you will be a part of," I stand up and start walking to my office. "If you need something or have questions, come by my office," I wave, not looking his way.
"Will do," I go back to my office and file cases for later. When I finish I head back to my apartment. I made sure to check to dumb waiter before going to sleep. In it this evening was a cupcake. I eat it gladly and send up a little bowl of candy. I ring the little bell and then start getting ready for bed.
