 Avril's POV

I stepped back from Gavin and immediately felt colder without his warmth. I really didn't want to leave yet, and face the threats that would probably jeopardize my existence. I looked about and noticed the slightly reddish hue in the sky. A sudden thought came to my mind as I pulled Gav's hand in mine and said to him, "come on, there's something I want to show you." I brought him to the ledge overlooking the west and sat him down on the blanket I conveniently leave there.

"Look at the sky," I told him while gazing off towards the distance.  "The sunset from this view is so beautiful. I just love sitting here anytime I get the chance to... I usually don't, but I try to cherish the times I have.  Is it like this on other planets, you think?" He didn't say anything at first, but I could feel him looking at me. He wrapped his arm around my waist to protect me against the chilly spring air.  I leaned my head on his shoulder and sighed at the serenity of our situation. This was the happiest I've been for a while now.

"You know," I heard Gav speak. "I think that this sunset is one of the prettiest I've ever seen. Mostly because I have the most beautiful girl sitting here with me.... But I never really expected anything like this when I was told I had to come to earth." There was a warmth spreading up my neck.

"Oh?" I replied. I didn't know how to respond to that.

"I was expecting things that are much more violent and downright scary. I definitely wasn't expecting falling for the loveliest woman alive, that's for sure... Well, I don' know, maybe it's mostly because we learn about your race and its history..." Wait. Did he just.  He said he fell. For me.

But yeah, I understood what he meant.

"Yeah we definitely have a bad history. But I think most of us are good, or as good as we can be."

"Are you sure that's not a biased thing?" I pulled myself away from his arms and turned so I faced him.

"What are you trying to say?" Gavin turned around and looked somewhat hesitant.

"I mean... You are the kindest, most lovable human I've ever met. But don't you think there are criminals out there?"

Oh. I didn't say anything. I didn't know what to say. I obviously judged his words way too fast. I kind of felt embarrassed at that. I looked away, I don't know why I keep acting so stupid around him.

"Hey... Nij'a," I felt his hand on my cheek. "Don't worry about it. It's not like us Turians are angels either. We have a fair share of bad guys too."

I smiled and bit my lip. Every time I get a little sad around Gav, he tries so hard to make me feel better. I tilted my head upwards and looked at him kindly.

"Don't worry, it's nothing," I said with a laugh.

Gavin looked back at me with a glint in his eyes. He pulled me over to him so that I was resting on his lap with my back on his chest. And let me just say, he had a really sturdy chest. He hugged me and nuzzled his face into my neck. It felt amazing, but the sky was getting really dark, maybe we should be getting home, I thought.  I voiced my concern to Gav, and he hummed in response - his mind seemed to be elsewhere. We stayed like that for a while.
