Our Rings

You are sitting in your favorite coffee shop, looking o your phone, scrolling through your Instagram feed. You see your ex's new post. He had over one hundred thousand likes on the picture he just posted a few hours ago. You weren't surprised of course, he was Oh Sehun after all. You wonder why you haven't unfollowed him yet. You decide not to like it and scroll downwards.

"Aw, no like on my recent?" You are startled as you hear a familiar voice say from behind you. Your heart skips a beat. That voice... It was the voice the calmed you down when you were upset, the voice that made butterflies explode every time you heard it. It was also the same voice that made tears flow for weeks, the same voice that broke your heart and ripped it into pieces. It was the voice of Oh Sehun.

You turn around to confirm your thoughts. Yep. It was him. The face that you tend to see on the internet every now and then. He has milky white skin, a sculpted nose and an incredibly sharp jawline. Just as you thought, is was him, Oh Sehun.

"Wha-what are you doing here? Aren't you supposed to be in Seoul?" You asked, still shocked by his unexpected appearance. "Aren't there fans chasing you? Aren't you afraid to get noticed by crazy paparazzi and saesangs?" You continue blabbering on until he cuts you off with a chuckle. "Nice to see you too, ____." He said, flashing a genuine smile at you.

There are a few moments of silence between both of you until he decides to break it. "Um, so is anyone sitting here?" He gestures towards the seat on front of you. "Oh um.." You begin, flustered and embarrassed that you are being so rude.

"No, no one's sitting there." You conclude. He moves forward, taking the empty seat in front of you. You both encounter yet another moment of silence as you exchange smiles and you stealthily steal a glance at him. He was so handsome, you couldn't help but blush a little. You down, trying to hide the fact that you're blushing and start to fidget with your fingers-a habit that you've developed since he left. You notice that his eyes are fixed onto something, something on your hand.

"You still have that ring?" He asks, reaching out to touch your hand. You feel your cheeks slightly heat up from the sudden contact of his hand. You look at his hand and realize what he was talking about.
"I gave that ring to you six years ago. You've kept it all this time?" He asks, clearly confused. "Yeah. I did. I've kept it for the five years we weren't together." You remind him. Making sure he was aware of your time apart. You see his hurt expression as he sighs.

"Why would you keep it?"
"It was a reminder." You reply flatly.
"Of what?"
"It was a reminder that love isn't  for eternity. Love exists for sure. But love doesn't last. When someone has a chance for something better, they lose all the love they had for you and leave you." You answer. "Just like you did to me." You add bitterly.

He furrows his eyebrows. "That's not true. _____, you know that's not true."
You stay silent. Reading the look on his face, you can see that you had hurt is feelings. He suddenly holds your hands and intertwine his fingers with yours. "I know you're still upset." He finally says. You pull your hands away from his.
"Upset? Upset about what? Upset that we broke up five years ago?" You ask, putting emphasis on the word five.
You can see his facial expression soften as he takes another deep sigh. "That's not what I meant." He tries to reason, but being the stubborn person you are you weren't  giving up. That's exactly what you meant. You say to yourself. You both sat through another period of awkward silence.

Luckily, a lady comes to your table with a smile plastered on her face. "What would you two like for today?" She asks politely. "Can I get a chocolate mocha frappuchino please?" You ask, slapping a fake smile on your face, pretending as if nothing had happened between you and Sehun.
