eight years old

Archie Andrews quietly played in the sandbox pushing trucks around and making small piles of sand with the use of his hands. Most kids ran around playing tag or swung from the monkey bars. Girls played with the jump ropes singing the most sinister things that they didn't realize at their age. Betty and Kevin sat on the perimeter of the wooden sand box flipping through the newest installment of the comic they have all come to like. Betty reading aloud in different voices that she decided fit each character.

"Give it back Reggie." a voice yelled out grabbing the attention of the sandbox tenants. Archie's eyes landed on two boys standing before the side steps that lead into the school. The taller one held a book in the air while the smaller one with a grey beanie covering his raven hair attempted at getting his book back. Then he shoved him. Reggie went stumbling back but caught his footing before he could completely fall back.

Reggie regained his balance and charged. Archie didn't know what he was doing but he felt his feet moving before he knew it he had practically sprinted across the play yard finding himself standing between the two boys, his arms extended and hands against Reggie's chest.

"Just leave him alone." Archie blurted out his voice shaking, looking up at the kid who was just a few inches taller. Betty and Kevin came running up both calling for Archie asking what he was doing. Archie had no idea what he was doing, he had never talked to the boy that stood behind him. He just knew that he had an odd name and mostly kept to himself. "Give it back."

Reggie smirked "What's Jughead to you? your boyfriend?" Archie's face twisted into confusion. Boyfriend? Jughead? He glanced back at the kid that stood behind him, cold blue eyes staring back into his brown ones. He turned away feeling heat rush to his cheeks.

"leave him alone." Archie snatched the book from Reggie's grasp. The group of kids disbursed unsatisfied that there wasn't a fight that they anticipated. "Here." He smiled holding the book out towards Jughead "thanks." He murmured giving a small smile. There was a silence between the two, neither sure of how to end what had happened.

"Do you want to come play with us? You can still read." Betty spoke up grabbing Jughead by the sleeve of his jean jacket before he could protest. She dragged him along back down to the sand box talking loudly about random things as she pulled him to sit on the wood.

Archie sat besides Jughead, already deciding that they were friends even though they hadn't spoke at all until today, the most words spoken between them was a total of two. Regardless, Archie had already felt a connection. He didn't know what kind. But a connection.

Authors note: this was a short + shitty first chapter and will most likely be a shitty fanfic all together, there will also be quite a few time jumps and flash backs randomly throughout so be aware.

And yes Reggie isn't an asshole to everyone but he seems to be one towards Jug the most ??? Not saying that Jughead can't be an ass because we all know he can

This story follows what is happening within the show but it's not the central plot of the story and also goes with it in a different way so its not like your reading a written version of the show u feel
