You walked shakily down the streets, Mr.Todd holding your arm around his neck to keep you steady.
"C'mon," he encouraged, pulling you up the steps to your door. You anxiously felt around yourself for your key, before pulling it from the belt securing itself around your waist.
Your shaky hand was no match to the small key hole. Mr.Todd grabbed your hand, guiding it to the keyhole, and pushed it inside.
"There you go," he said softly. Your face grew slightly red, turning around and rolling your eyes ever so slightly at him. You nervously fumbled for the door knob, before grabbing it and twisting it open. The small one-bedroom apartment looked plain and sad, aside from the some-what cheerful bleached out yellow curtains. Mr.Todd held the door open for you as you walked in and collapsed on your love seat. Mr.Todd sat on the window bench, glancing out into the dim streets of London which were only being lit by a few torches every 15 feet or so. He stared for a moment, before glancing back at you.
"So, how about some tea?"

"Oh, of course," you messily scrambled up, wobbling to the kitchen area, managing to prepare some tea.
"Care for some sugar?"
"No, thanks."
You nodded, walking towards him, the tea in hand, and sitting beside him.
"Ah, Mr.Todd... If you had never come with me, that man would be dead," you sighed, referring to Percy. Mr.Todd nodded slightly, swallowing hard. You handed him his cup before you took a small drink of your tea. Mr.Todd stared into the blackness of his cup, before glancing up.
"But I fear it wouldn't be him who would die," he sighed quietly.
"You can't do this alone. You mustn't," he swallowed hard.
You stared at him, seeing the pain in his eyes, even in the dim light of the room.
"Mr.Todd. You can't underestimate me," you scoffed with a laugh. It was turning into a stereotypical woman on man conversation about how 'I'm not made of glass!'

"(Y/N)," he paused.
"I can't afford to lose anyone else. I've already lost my wife. I could have had her. But of course, Nellie had to come along and destroy my chan-... Well, I almost lost my daughter. You're the only person I have left in London. Anthony left with Johanna, and no matter how much I beg, they'll most probably never contact me again," Mr.Todd cried out.

You glanced up at him, staring into his dark and pained eyes.
"I can't lose you. You're my only friend now," he stated quietly.
'Friend,' You scoffed internally.
"Mr.Todd... If we are... Actually... Going to do this, we have to be a team."
"This?" Mr.Todd asked. Half of him was hoping it was to deal with the Percy situation, the other half was secretly desiring a new romance. But he brushed it off, using the logic that Lucy was his only true love, and nobody could ever replicate her, nor could the feelings he had for her come back for a new person.

"Getting rid of... Percy," you said softly, your lips quivering. You started thinking of all of the times you had with Jack. All of the once happy memories had completely drained of all charisma and peacefulness and had been filled with pain, anger, and jealousy. The pain showing when you imagined what things would be like if Percy never came along. Anger towards Percy, and that horrendous gun. The jealousy flaring when you saw a young woman in the shops, at the park, anywhere, with her lover, and a family.

Truth be told, Jack wanted a kid more than anything. And you thought it would be amazing to have a kid around him. You thought maybe it'd loosen him up, get him to be less cynical. But another part of you feared he would be too aggressive for a child.

But what really got your mind at work was subconsciously noting the similarities between Jack and Mr.Todd.  They were so strikingly similar. Their quietness but ability to be happy was uncanny, and it constantly made you yearn to be closer to Mr.Todd.

Mr.Todd nodded.
"Yes. Of course."

You sat and thought for a moment, before opening your mouth.
"Mr.Todd," you said softly.
"Yes?"
"Thank you. For everything so far," you said graciously, a true smile painted on your lips, tears of pain, happiness, and confusion slowly and cautiously made their ways out of your eyes.

You sat, stewing in your thoughts.
"What will I do if I'm in love with another man and he gets harmed? I can't handle losing another loved one."  You saw Mr.Todd set down his tea cup and stare out the window from the window seat, dust popping up from the cushion. You smiled, admiring how he was able to sit in his own world, not being bothered by anything around him unless he chooses to draw his attention to a specific thing. Like a true maniac.
