"Elsa?" I whispered.
Tori bent down beside me. She looked just as shocked as I did.
"Why would Robbie kill his own sister?" she whispered.
"I don't know." I took a look at her face.
It had a single stab wound that penetrated the right side of her neck. I could see the blood still coming out. She must not have been stabbed too long ago. The puddle was still kind of fresh. I placed my index and middle finger to wrist. I couldn't feel a pulse. Elsa was dead.
At least she didn't have to feel much, I thought. But, why kill your sister? The one who's sheltered you and cared for you? How did she get tangled in this mess?
I didn't understand it. I rose back to my feet, so did Tori.
"We gotta get outta here," she said, panic-stricken. "I can't take another minute of this."
"I know, but I need to find Mom and I still haven't freaking found her," I said, feeling frustrated.
I knew my time was up. I felt it. But I still wanted to search for her. I didn't want her to get killed let alone Tori.
"Ava, we'll find her, don't worry."
"But my time is up. I just know it, Tori," I replied dejectedly.
She grabbed onto my wrist. "Let's go see if maybe we can still find your Mom."
I nodded.
Both of us sprinted out of the room and went downstairs, our footsteps echoing throughout the warehouse.
"Where do you think we should we search?" Tori asked.
"I-I'm not sure. I mean, I checked the whole lower level and I didn't find her."
"What about the basement?"
I flashed her a perplexed look. "The basement? The warehouse had a basement?"
"Well, yes, I think so. It was where they kept all the archives that didn't sell. I know where it's at. I happened to get a quick peek through the blindfold before Robbie tightened it. I'll show you."
Still holding on to my wrist, she led me through the dark, chilly halls.
We passed by an old office when we got to the basement door. The door had a huge lock attached to the latch.
"Maybe I can find a screwdriver to pry it open," Tori suggested, looking around.
"Don't even bother, guys," a voice said from behind.
Tori and I spun around quickly. Robbie stood behind us, arms crossed over his chest. He had a grin spread across his face.
"Don't even bother, Ava. That door's been sealed for years. Ever since the place was shut down, the lock won't budge. Not even if you tried it," he explained, chuckling.
I felt so angry inside, I wanted to kill him so bad.
"Where's Mom?" I asked, voice quivering. "Where are you hiding her, you idiot?!"
Robbie chuckled again. He walked closer to the both of us.
"I hid her well enough, didn't I? Too bad I didn't hide Tori well enough. Things could've turned out interesting. I was dying to have some fun."
I shook my head at him. "Why are you doing this to me? You're ruining my life! You've taken almost everything away from me!"
"Almost," he corrected.
