"Hey! Little girl! Wake up!"

I groan, opening my eyes and look around. I look up at the irritated 40 year old man who's hair is starting to gray. I study his uniform, giving me the information that he's a worker on the El.

"We're in Chicago. Time for you to grab your shit and get off." He grumbled.

"Yeah yeah, keep your panties out of a knot. I'm fuckin' going." I rolled my eyes.
I reach under my seat and grab my bag and guitar case.
I exit off the El and analyze my surroundings. It's not much different than my home town.
Run down with a bunch of assholes living in a trash littered town.

I walk down the street towards the Southside of Chicago. The sun shining brightly in the sky, the warmth beating down on me, causing little beads of sweat to appear on my forehead.

My earbuds bumping music into my ears, I nod to the beat, lightly singing along to the music, finally enjoying myself knowing I won't have to back to the piece of shit I call a mother.

I pass a local pool, and watch the kids, laughing with joy without a care in the world.

I could use a lil break and relax with a few minutes. I think to myself.
I've been traveling for 2 days without a shower. I deserve a lil relaxation and use the shower that's inside the building that people use to rinse off chorine. Need a good first impression on my uncle since I haven't seen him since I was 10 years old

I enter the pool and sit down on one of the chairs. I see a red headed girl with pigtails, a little black boy sitting in her lap, getting ice cream everywhere, including her hair.

"Liam! You're getting ice cream everywhere!" She scolds the little boy annoyed.

A couple walks passed her, the girl yelling at the boy claiming that he would fuck anything with legs.

I rolled my eyes and watch as the girls face lights up, knowing exactly what she's thinking.
I watch as she gets up and walks up to the boy and sits next to him, trying to be seductive towards him.
I watch as she stares at him.
"Hey! I think you lost one!" The boy yells to a man who has a group of special needs children with him.
The girl gasps offendedly and storms off, jumping in the pool.

I'm embarrassed for her. Nobody should be treated like that. I get up from my seat, keeping an eye on my bags and walk towards the boy.

"Aye, I know you thought that was funny, embarrassing her like that, but that was just fucked up, man." I angrily said. That boy knew she wasn't special needs.
"What're you gonna do about it, girly." He laughs at me.
I snap my fist back and punch him square in the nose, hearing a satisfying crunch.
Blood pours out of his nose.

"You're fucking psycho!" He yells at me. "Stupid fucking bitch." He walks away from me, shooting daggers at me.

I turn around and see the redheaded girl smiling widely at me. She runs over towards me.
"Oh my god. That was really cool of you!" She laughs. "I'm Debbie, Debbie Gallagher."

"I'm Lexi Ball, nice to meet you." I smile at her.
I look down at my knuckles, and watch as blood seeps through the bandages that were wrapped around my hand from punching that mirror.

"Are you okay?" Debbie grabs my hand, examining it looking concerned.

"I'm okay. It was really nice to meet you but I really should get going." I snatch my hand back, reminding myself that I can't trust anyone or let anymore know about what happened back home, knowing if the wrong people found out, I would be put into foster care.
"Oh alright." She signs disappointedly. "We should hang out sometime though." She smiles.

"Yeah definitely." I say to her, just to keep her happy even though the chances of running into her again were probably very slim.

"I'll see you later Debbie" I wave to her. I walk over to my stuff and grab it to head out. Screw the shower, I need to get out of here.

I walk up the steps to leave the pool area. I look around, making eye contact with a brilliant shade of blue green eyes.

A boy in an electric wheel chair, with a blonde girl sitting on his lap, kissing his neck.
We keep eye contact for a few seconds as I take in his looks.

Short brown hair, plump lips and gorgeous eyes.

I break eye contact, shaking away the strange feeling in my gut, as I head out of the pool to go find my uncles house.
