That night, Toby had gained re-awareness in the present after the freezing serum that Leona Vanderwaal had used on him had worn off, and was kicking and punching at his coffin as Matty DiLaurentis dug it up. When the lid to the coffin swung open, Toby quickly lifted his head out, gasping for air, and looked at Matty, taken aback by his facial deformity.
"Who are you?" asked Toby.
"I'm Matty DiLaurentis. Alison's brother. Can you keep a secret?" asked Matty. Toby nodded his head.
"Don't tell anyone you met me. Leave town, and don't come back," said Matty.
"Okay. I'll do what you ask, on one condition: don't hurt Spencer," said Toby.
"I won't lay a hand on her. You have my word," said Matty. Toby got up and walked off without so much as a second glance behind him.
