Chapter- Eleven
Madeline's POV:
(A few weeks ago)
I was studying in my room for exams when my cell phone beeped. I picked it up and checked the message. It was from Brandon he was begging me to talk to him and reminding me about our study session.
I read the message and felt a pang of guilt in my heart. He was really trying to talk to me but I was pushing him away. I knew if I meet him I won't be able to keep mine and Conner's fake relationship a secret. He would ask me questions and pester me into telling him the truth. I wouldn't be able to keep lying to him on the face, it wasn't in my nature.
Once again my phone beeped indicating that I had a new message. This time he was asking me to help him in the study.
I sighed reading the message and contemplating between going to his house or not. If I needed to pass exams without drama then I had to stay away from you Brandon. It was the only option.
The voice in my head said to me that I needed to help my best friend.
Then suddenly an idea popped into my head. I dialed Laura's number but she didn't pick up. After waiting for a few minutes for her to call me back, I decided to give her a visit.
I took out my black tights and pulled it over my cotton short shorts and glanced at myself in the mirror. My grey color off shoulder shirt didn't look that bad with black tights so I left it on and put my hair in a messy bun. I put on my black flats and left the house.
Laura lived a few streets away from me so I prefer walking there.
Yeah, it's not like you have any other means of transportation. My mind chided.
Our neighborhood stays silent in the evening which sometimes makes me wonder if people even lives here.
I walked lazily breathing in the fresh air and admiring the beautiful houses on my way until I reached outside her house.
I was about to ring the bell when the door opened and very flustered looking Fanny comes out.
"Hi, Fanny. Is Laura inside?" I asked her frowning at her blushing face.
"Oh, yeah" She said avoiding her eyes.
Fanny is Laura's housemaid/chef. She was an old forty years old woman and working for Gonzalez as long as remember. She was too friendly and caring towards Brandon and I when we would come to play with Laura. She used to treat us like king and queen of the place. We respected her a lot, not like Laura who treats her like a servant.
Her weird behavior made me worried. "Is everythin fine, Fanny?"
"Yeah, dear. I was just leaving for a grocery shopping." She said leaving hurriedly and forgot to close the door.
I entered the house and closed the door. I glanced around and the lavish interior of the house with expensive furniture stared back at me. The house was empty as usual either her parents were at their office or out of the city again on some trip to Europe. I sometimes wonder why Laura never complained about their long trips. When she was a kid, she used to cry and beg them to stay.
