Chapter 11
Over the next few month's my stomach suddenly became bigger and bigger with each morning. I couldn't see my feet from my huge bump sticking out. But I loved my bump. My three jellybeans were safe inside there, growing and growing with each day.
Yesterday, I called Diego to let him know that the flutters I had started feeling turned into strong kicks. We talked almost every day, usually about how the triplets and I were. Our conversations were purely about our children and their health.
Sometimes he would come over to the house to see me and we'd have supper together, usually after we attended my antenatel classes together. And when Diego couldn't make it for whatever reason, Bobby would always drop everything at a moments notice and come with me. Most nights, I'd insist on Martha and Jones having supper with me. It was a breath of fresh air to see how happy they were together. It proved to me that with the right person true love was the most precious of things that money couldn't find.
It was all about that one encounter and from there, each day that love would become stronger and stronger. Sure, they'd fought plenty, but they'd always made it up before the sun set. Their love was eternal.
Bobby and I had arranged a permenant monday night movie night together and some nights he'd actually sleep over. It was nice, for sometimes as the crickets sang in the night, I found myself lonely in this big empty place.
Diego and I had arranged to meet at the hospital today as my twenty week scan couldn't give Dr. Gardener a good enough view of them to measure them up. They were very small, but also fighting strong by their kicks. Today, I'd be having a 4D scan that might help determine the gender so I could start buying and also give Dr. Gardener a better view of them just to make absolutely certain that everything was okay and get his measurements. From now on I was to receive ultrasounds monthy to chart any changes and check for any signs of pre-eclampsia. I'd have routine blood work done as long as various other tests.
So far, I proceeded to have all the nessesary steps to rule out any abnormalities and the doctors seemed certain that my triplets were perfectly healthy, after all, it wasn't uncommon for a woman to have multiple pregnancies. Some women had quadruplets, or more!
As my pregnancy progressed, I kind of felt as though I was some sort of science experiment. I was always jabbed with needles or measured with something or they'd want urine tests. But it was all for the sake of my children, so I smiled and soldiered through.
My phone rang and Diego's name came up.
"Hello?" I answered, my breath catching as I heard his voice all over again.
"Make sure you look presentable today, Gatito," His strong voice hummed matter-of-factly. "After the scan, we have an appointment. I'll pick you up at eleven."
Goodbye to you too, I retorted to myself.
I changed into a pretty yellow strapless dress that was casual but also for all occassions I guessed. It stretched around my breasts, allowing the soft cotton material to fall softly over my huge bump. It was comfortable and that itself was a blessing. My swollen feet felt luxurious in a pair of soft white cotton ballet pumps that gave extra padding to my feet.
Remembering that Diego had once commented on my hair being straight, I decided to straighten in and allow my thick golden hair to hang straightly. I kept my make up minimal, and sprayed my favourite perfume.
I met Diego outside as he held the car door open for me and smiled politely.
"Wow, you've grown bigger!" Diego enthused, his meaty hands stroking my bump before he bent down to kiss it. "You going to kick for me today? So I can feel you too?"
