Chapter 7: Changing Our Direction

Christmas that year passed. To any passer-by, the Lupin household seemed like a normal household on Christmas day.

Ivy and Remus, sitting with their children opening presents. Joined at dinner by siblings James and Lily and nephew, baby Harry.

But this Christmas was not a cheerful occasion. It was rather sombre if anything.

The passing on of Mr and Mrs Evans had devastated not only the girls, but the entire family.

And the New Year ahead, would bring their fair share of bad news, and a big loss for Ivy more than anyone.

It was February 1981. Christmas had been and gone and so had Ivy and Lily’s twentieth birthday.

Remus, Ivy, James and Lily were at James and Lily’s this afternoon. The grown-ups were sitting in the kitchen chatting about goings on, Nicole and Harry were sleeping and Rhiannon and Daniel were building a tower out of blocks in the living room.

But a devastating announcement by sudden and unannounced visitor sent the family into shock.

A knock came at the door.

“Excuse me. I’ll just go and answer that.” Lily said, walking into the hallway to answer the door.

“Good afternoon Mrs Potter. May I come in?” Asked a figure in the

doorway.

“Of course Professor.” Lily said, leading Dumbledore into the small kitchen.

The elderly wizard in the colourful red robes, pointed hat and small crescent spectacles looked out of place in the small, modern kitchen and Ivy wondered what had brought him here.

“Your being here is most helpful Mr and Mrs Lupin.” Dumbledore said smiling at Remus and Ivy.

Ivy smiled back.

“I have rather alarming news. It seems, a prophecy has been made, concerning one of your children.” Dumbledore said, the familiar twinkle in his eyes gone.

“What does the prophecy say?” Asked Lily who was already nervous and shaking.

Dumbledore reached into his robes and pulled out a roll of parchment that strongly resembled a scroll. He unrolled it and began to read,

“The one with the power to vanquish the Dark Lord approaches . . . born to those who have thrice defied him, born as the seventh month dies . . . and the Dark Lord will mark his as his equal, but he will have power the Dark Lord knows not . . . and either must die at the hand of the other for neither can live while the other survives . . . the one with the power to vanquish the Dark Lord will be born as the seventh month dies. . .” Dumbledore trailed off.

Lily was now shaking like a leaf, clutching James’ hands.

Ivy was also rather nervous and kept looking between her former headmaster and her worried sister.
