Chapter #20: Rescued
I was victorious! I tried to wrestle myself out of his tight yet tingly grasp, which sent shivers up my spine, but he clasped tightly to my waist, never letting go of me. Struggling, he pulled himself up from the dirty ground and proceeded to limp to the door, another rock pounded him in the leg while he was on his way to the door.
Even though he was wounded, he was still stronger than me, a poor, weak, little princess, and I found I could not escape his grip no matter how much I struggled or how hard I hit his chest, which, by the way, was extremely firm. I was still in his grasp, and I realized that unless I discovered some genius way of outsmarting him, I was probably doomed.
“Let . . . Me. . . Go!” I screamed, still pounding on his chest resistantly. He grunted angrily before speaking through his teeth.
“You. . . Are only making this . . . Harder for yourself.” Jean sounded as if he was ready to pass out from the intensity of his pain. I knew he was not going to be able to reach the door while holding up my weight.
“I will . . . . Never give up. You can not escape me. If I die before I get my revenge, my ghost will haunt you in your sleep.” Those were some strong words for someone who was about to die himself.
Suddenly, another rock hit him in the knee. He fell to the ground, clutching his knee with one of his arms in pain. I took this as a chance for escape. I bit the arm that remained on my leg, and I pulled away quickly from Jean.
I began to move away from him, but right when I was going to be free, an arm snaked around my ankle. Jean gave a cry of anguish as a jiggled his arm, and I felt the grip loosen on my ankle.
At first, I was shocked that Jean had dared to touch my ankle, but then I realized that it would probably be smart to run away from him now. I kicked his hand, and I was free.
I turned around and noticed a person sitting on the ground. She looked just like a pine tree. From her hair and eyes to her long, piney green dress. She was almost exactly the same as a tree that I had seen just outside of the tailor shop.
Her hair was like some of the branches, and her skin was coconut-brown, with brown eyes and dark lashes. Her dress was the exact same green that the pines were.
“Come with me,” she told me. Her voice was rich, like caramel or honey. “Petunia and Daffodil sent me here to help you. Now, hold on tight!”
She felt along the stone wall until she found what she was looking for. Then she slammed on part of the wall hard, and to my surprise, an overpass extended from the ground to the other side of the ravine. Clutching my hand, she pulled me across the bridge. However, the second that she stepped off of the crossing, it withdrew from the middle.
It happened so quick, and before I knew it, we were across the chasm. I came face-to-face with Orion, and I turned to question the girl about what could have happened to make him here.
“How in the world did you get him over here? Especially since you were supposed to be helping me.” I asked her, cocking my head almost like an owl while trying to point out her absence of help.
“Oh, I brought him over while you were fighting that evil baddy. That was really brave of you.” She acted almost like I was her hero. I was shocked that anyone would think of me as a hero, since I was anything but a hero. In fact, I am shocked that anyone would think about me at all.
“Who are you?” I finally said, asking her the question that I had been wondering the whole time that I had known her.
“Oh. Sorry, I forgot to introduce myself. I am Evergreen, friend of Daffodil and Petunia.” Of course. That would make loads of sense. I had been guessing her name would be something like Pine or Needle.
After that, when Daffodil finally heard about what had happened, she rushed me to the palace that was on the other side of the chasm and into a bed in the guest house. We passed through numberless glittery rooms. Finally, I collapsed on a nice, fluffy bed, and I fell asleep immediately.
When I woke up, I could not believe my eyes. I was in the most magical bedroom. The bed was a light blue, four-poster bed with the lacy curtains pulled back. The walls were pink, and it looked as though a big tube of glitter had been poured all over them. A little too much, but it just looked extra magical. The furniture looked like it had come out of a dollhouse. A very large, up-to-date, princess dollhouse, of course. Nothing less for the best person existing on the globe who was named Princess Andriana..... But anyway, on the soft purple table close to the bed I saw a tray loaded with every kind of food imaginable. AGH!
I sprung out of my bed and descended carnivorously on the food with none of the poise and grace normally required of a princess. But no one could see me, so I was good. I was shocked to find that every single one of the best foods in the world had all been loaded onto the tray. I was in food heaven. One thing about me is: I LOVE FOOD! Which is great, because, as royalty we have every single kind of food from all throughout the royal kingdom. I think that I would have died if I was born as a peasant. Black bread and gruel are two of the most disgusting foods that existed.
I felt sorry for the poor peasants, living such a drab existence. They must have no excitement in their lives besides the few celebrations that the palace sponsored to relieve them momentarily of their heavy workloads.
I looked around in amazement. It looked as though this room had been custom made exactly for me! I had never seen such a beautiful room. I walked around my room, wondering how long I had been in this room.
I decided that I had to go find Daffodil or Petunia. Certainly they could tell me. I found a dress waiting for me on the bed. I quickly pulled it over my head, disregarding it’s beautiful embellishments.
It was long and flowing, with little pink jewels sewn below the bust. It looked like it had been made for me and it was my exact size.
“How could all of these amazing things be for me? Have I invaded someone else’s room?” I wondered to myself aloud. However, it was highly unlikely. And I had not entered the room desire, I had been placed here by whoever had been in charge of getting me to the Palace safely. So no one could be mad at me if they entered their room to take a nap and found me snoozing contently on the bed.
I wandered up and down the hallways. Looking into different rooms, I saw that all of them looked distinctly like mine, as though all of them fit the person’s personality. It was almost as though every room was a piece of a huge puzzle, all of the pieces fitting together in some way, no matter how different they looked at first glance. The way they talked, acted, and did reflected themselves in their room.
After passing through several hallways, I was officially completely and utterly lost. I found a room where a group of the people were in the middle of an important-looking meeting.
“Daffodil!” I cried out before I remembered where I was, and that she was probably busy with other matters, not worrying about my safety or wondering where I was. The people who she had been talking with looked pretty important, so I instantly realized that I had probably interrupted something important. I quickly hid behind a pillar, but she was already coming towards me, wearing a scowl on her face. When she saw me, her scowl only deepened. Although now it looked like she was only angry because I was out and about, not safely in my bed.
“Adriana!” she whispered harshly. “You should be in bed! And you just interrupted me in a very important meeting!”
I was impressed. She had managed to get even more bitter and strict since I last saw her. She must be taking lessons from someone to get this good. If I told her that, she would most likely kill me with just one glance. If looks could kill, I would be dead.
Duh duh duh duh..... what do you think will happen? I want 5000 reads @ least! Even though as we all know, I will probably upload anyway regardless. I love reading other people's stories, they inspire me. So if you are currently really struggling, post your link below, and I will try to eventually get to it. Also, please say what genre it is, because i do not read any R rated, books with a lot curse words, boyxboy or girlxgirl(they frighten me), or werewolf/vampire or gory books. Sorry. Not that any of those are bad, but I just can't bring myself to read them.
