I woke up in a hospital bed with a wire thing or two connected connected to my arm. I see Justin next to me appearing to be asleep.
"Justin?" I whisper.
His eyes shoot open, "Kaitlyn! You're awake!" He quickly stands up and kissing my cheek, I felt a little bit of pain and whimpered. "Oh, I'm sorry babe, wrong cheek." He frowns.
I feel my cheek lightly with my hand. It's stitched up. Connor must be a tough ass because he got me good. I used to always admire how bad boy and tough he was. I'm not quite sure why though.
I notice that Justin has a black eye and remember that Connor hit him too, just obviously not nearly as bad as when I jumped in. "What exactly happened?" I asked Justin softly to clarify my memories.
"I heard Connor screaming at you. I came in and next thing I know you're on the floor and I have a black eye." Justin says.
"Wait-do they-do they know about the baby? Does the hospital know about the baby? Fuck Justin, why'd you bring me here? They're gonna take me baby away. Did they already do it?" I quickly force my words to say.
Justin sighs, "Unfortunately, yes, the hospital knows. I told them-I told them you're sending the baby to live with your aunt who's in another country. But I had to bring you here. You were bleeding pretty bad. It was for your own good."
My eyes tear up, "What are we supposed to do now? Now that public authority knows, how are we supposed to hide it?" I place my hands on my stomach and look down.
"You might wanna know they say you're about 7 months." Justin says softly.
My eyes widen. I didn't realize it's been that long already. My mind stormed with questions, but I was too out of it to ask a nurse or even Justin. Can they tell the gender? Why were they letting me follow through with this pregnancy, when normally it would be illegal? Of course I'll be 'sending' this baby to a family member where it's legal to have babies in that country, but normally here they force you to get an abortion. They don't deliver babies. They don't perform ultrasounds.
A nurse walked into the room and realized that I was awake, "Oh, good morning Kaitlyn. Do you mind if I speak to you about a few things?"
I nodded.
"Well, first of all, you're about 7 months pregnant. The reason we didn't perform the abortion was because you're so far along. You're not really an exception, but since your boyfriend here informed us that you're planning on sending the baby away, I've spoken with law enforcement and they agreed on just a fine as long as that baby is not being raised here. It is to be sent away as soon as it is born. We will have the police checking on you monthly at random times to make sure you are not raising that baby." The nurse informed me.
I nodded nervously, I had to think of a plan. A plan that will allow me to raise this baby and not have it killed and not get me arrested. I wasn't even worried about the fine over my child's life. Before the law was passed, I always dreamed of having my own kids. I couldn't wait for that day I would finally hold a child I can call my own in my arms. I couldn't wait to go out in public with my baby and be showered in comments on how cute they are. I couldn't wait for mom life, but this cruel country had to take it away from me before I even had the chance to be a mom. And I don't even know why the law really was passed. My mind has convinced me it's so one day this country can be full of mature adults at once and not have kids running around everywhere. It then hit me that my kid will not have a life if I'm raising them in this country. It then hit me that my kid can not have a life no matter what I'd choose to do with it.
