Chapter 25
Merlock (Mermaidlock) - Part 4
Sherlock swam home as fast as he could. Mycroft would be wondering where he had gone. Sherlock almost never left his room at the palace, Mycroft would definatly be getting suspicious.
"Where have you been?" Mycroft boomed as Sherlock attempted to sneak into his room.
"Out." Was Sherlock's blunt reply.
"Where?"
"What does it matter to you?"
"The princess demands your presence in the thrown room." Mycroft was quite obviously avoiding the questions. He would never answer them directly. He was a tricky person to deal with most of the time.
Sherlock sniffed and made his way to the thrown room. Irene was there waiting for him.
"Hello, Sherly." She purred.
"Hello." Sherlock hated his nickname and tended not to respond to that name but he had no choice right now.
"Where have you been? I've missed you." She teased childishly.
"I went out, I wanted to clear my thoughts."
"You know it's dangerous out, with Moriarty about Sherly." Irene pouted.
"Do you not trust me to protect myself?" Although he hated the princess Sherlock atleast tried to act polite. The woman could have his head if she so wished after all.
"I do, but I don't want you to get hurt so close to the wedding."
Crap! The wedding was only a week away! Sherlock had forgetten! How could he forget his own wedding?!
Sherlock nodded and cleared his throat. "Please excuse me, I will be turning in early this evening."
"Will you not sleep with me tonight darling?" Irene rolled the words off her tounge like she was a cat playing with wool. It was hard to tell sometimes if she was teasing or being serious.
"Not tonight." With that Sherlock fled to his chambers.
He placed his little pouch on his stone dresser and pulled out John's drawing. He admired the accuracy of every shape and detail. This boy was truely remarkable.
He held the picture close to his chest and sighed. Why couldn't he just be human like John. Everything would be so much easier. No Irene, no James Moriarty, no Mycroft.
Sherlock slipped the laminated sheet of paper under a large peice of coral next to his bed. Sherlock climbed into the over sized clam that he slept in. He flapped his tail and the clam fell shut.
Maybe everything would be clearer by morning. Just maybe...probably not.
John returned home just gone 5:00pm. His mother was out and his father was working but the kitchen light was one.
"Hello?" John krept slowly into the kitchen holding his cricket bat steadily.
"John!"
"Harry?!" John stood in shock at the sight of his big sister. He was close to tears. "Why are you here?!" His sadness soon turned to rage.
"J-john! Calm down please!" Harry squealed and took a step backwards.
"You tore this family appart! You took off and left mum and dad to worry! I've fallen asleep to the sound of mum crying for the past 2 weeks!" John huffed and his face was red.
"I'm sorry...I really am. I couldn't stay here though. You have to remember that I was protecting you!"
"Stop it! Just...stop... These all excuses Harriet Watson! You are selfish and you only ever think of yourself! Get out!" John's voice cracked as he screached at his now sobbing sister.
The distraught girl ran out of the door and down the street. John fell onto the floor and wept. He honestly didn't know what to do anymore...
