Week:5, Day: 1, Of The Invasion

When the sun rose so did my brothers, they looked around then looked at me. “Did you sleep, Nixie?” I shook my head and leaned against the couch, “Why not?” Blaine prodded

“I just couldn’t sleep. It was too quiet.” I had grown too accustomed to the hundred sleeping noises to fall asleep to the sound of crickets and other insects trying to find love. Elek nodded his head understanding.

“I wouldn’t have been able to fall asleep either if I wasn’t so tired.” Elek mumbled.

“Why were you tired? You haven’t done anything.” Blaine mumbled back.

                “I walked here, didn’t I?”

“I lifted you out of the hatch.” Blaine began to raise his voice.

“Shut up both of you,” I mumbled rubbing my eyes, “We don’t have time for this. What you are fighting about is stupid, and pointless. Right now we need to look for food.”

Elek nodded, “Yea, Blaine.” I glared at him.

“We don’t have time for this.” I mumbled standing up, signaling for Blaine and Elek to follow me. We walked towards the curtains and peeked out. The light blinded me momentarily, but when I could see, I saw nothing but the remains of houses and bodies. “Do you guys see anything?”

                “Nope,” Blaine replied.

“Should we go out there?” Elek mumbled.  I nodded slowly, not wanting to go outside. What if we get eaten? What if I lose my brothers? I swallowed slowly and closed the curtains.

“I don’t want to though. What if we get eaten?” I mumbled voicing my opinions. Elek looked down and Blaine stiffened.

“You won’t get eaten.” Blaine said, his voice tense. I nodded believing he would protect Elek and I. They have always looked out for me when we were little. I would always get picked on because I was always smaller than everyone else. Whenever they heard that someone was cruel to me they would stand up for me and beat up whoever hurt me. I trusted that they would protect each other as much as they would protect me.

I took a deep breath in and walked towards the door as I let it out. “Okay, let’s do this.”  I opened the door and the light blinded me again. “Damn, the sun is going to take a bit of getting used to.” I mumbled, Blaine and Elek let out groans of agreement. When they adjusted we wandered down the street farther away from the bunker.

We walked until night, searching any houses that weren’t completely ruined.

                We came up empty handed.

When darkness surrounded us we decided to look for another house to crash in for the night. I saw a house that didn’t even looked touched, we walked inside it and I saw a giant circle carved on the living room wall with a thicker smaller circle in the middle of it. We all stood and stared at it for a while.

“What does it mean?” Elek mumbled.

“I don’t know, but I saw a smaller on at the other place we stayed at.” I told them. They looked at me and then back at the wall.
