The scenery flies by, I keep my eyes directed out the window. I refuse to look at or speak to Rafe. He's driving like a maniac, it will be easy to lose control on these narrow winding roads, but again I don't care. I don't know why he came for me. Or why the King ordered him to come for me. That's probably why he came for me.
"No, Maha, I came for you because I love you and you're my wife." Rafe says. Either he's a mind reader or I'm speaking my thoughts out loud again. Since he doesn't say anything it must be the latter.
I don't believe him though. I believed him once, believed him twice, but after the way he treated me after his daughter was born I don't believe him anymore.
"She's your daughter too," I hear the tears in his voice as he says this. I must still be talking my thoughts out loud.
I don't reply to that. I've had maybe a grand total of five minutes with his daughter. There was no room for me in his life now.
It's a good thing the road has widened out and isn't lined with cliffs at this point because Rafe slams on the brakes. Two things happen, a large boulder rolls onto the road where we would have been had he not slammed the brakes on and my head connects to the window hard enough to make it break.
As I start falling into darkness I hear the guard firing his weapon and Rafe yelling something.
Maha is bleeding. I can't stand it. Those damn muppets don't care that she's hurt. From what I've seen they plan on doing a great deal more to her and all of us they've managed to capture. I work my way carefully over to her and hold her tight. I do my best to stop her bleeding.
The guard wakes up shortly after this and also makes his way to us. Most of my people that they've captured are in various states of awareness. I've seen some already break their vials and release the contents. I relax. That part at least will go to plan.
I feel something poke into me from Maha's waist. I feel the outline of a knife. It's the knife that I tried to give her months ago. I didn't think she'd take it. There's only one reason I can think of for her having that knife though. I close my eyes in pain. She was going to end it. I had thought that she had gotten past that point, but I must have sent her back there.
Every so often a guard would come and take another of my people away. None of them have come back. This is beginning to piss me off.
I won't lose any more of my people. I motion to the door with my head. My guard nods we take positions. I set Maha down and to the side. The guard and I both let our nails grow into the talons we normally never use. My people watch and those that are awake enough do the same. Others help the ones still out by waking them up and getting ready to carry them.
The only thing is, there might be other rooms of captives. When the guards come in they are easily over powered. We get out and some of my people look in the other rooms. In all we find two more rooms of my people.
One room of captives was almost completely aware and pissed. They are able and willing to help the other room of captives which are still almost completely out of it. As we come to cross corridors we release more of the vials.
Maha wakes up while we are making our escape. She fights me until I set her down. She won't look at me or let me touch her now. Just what have I done?
She goes over to a computer access that we run across. She manages to get it to work and bring up the schematics for the ship. The Other's in their pride hadn't even taken anything from us and Maha pulls out her personal computer and downloads some information. Then she looks up and downloads more information.
This is taking far too long and I'm starting to get nervous. When I try to get Maha away from the computer though she just gives me a dirty look.
Finally she stops downloading and leads us in a different direction. She has us open several of the vials and place them in the air vent at one particular location. Once this is done she smiles a nasty smile, the nastiest I've ever seen her have.
Then we leave and she takes us to some emergency ships and has us get in. Once we are in she launches them all. "Flag ship, the package has been delivered. All hell should break lose within three days if this works out."
The emergency ships are set to go to the nearest habitable planet. That planet would be Ziamlia. Damn my wife is brilliant.
I find the computer access in the corridor of the Evil Muppets. If my abilities to understand these aliens extends to writing as well, we might just get out of this alive. These are my people, I owe it to them to at least try to help them get off this ship.
It works, I'm able to access and download mountains of information. Two very important things come to my attention. The location of the main air vent, which will distribute the virus to the entire ship and the location of the emergency escape pods, or rather ships. There is enough room for all of us.
Rafe and my guard make sure that I am in and secured before allowing me to activate the ship.
May these Evil muppets burn in whatever hell they believe in. I release the ship and we fly off back towards Ziamlia.
I manage to send a message off to the flag ship to not have them destroy us by accident. The Commander replies and it is a bit reassuring how upset she was and how calm she is now about us being free.
She even let the ship go instead of blow it up like she was going too, since we've delivered the illness to them.
But would it be enough? More important would it do it's job? There is no way of knowing at this point.
Reentry into Ziamlia wasn't very smooth. The ship is programmed to make a landing where the least amount of damage to people would happen. So hopefully we won't land in a city or a mountain top or a lake.
