371 applicants. Huh, not many backed down after that. I'm actually surprised that there's still 371 it felt like more people were on the ground while we were running. Hopefully running in a swamp and in this fog will get rid of more. Hopefully. This air is extremely humid though. Its times like these I wish I didn't dress as a boy. Oh well nothing I can do about it now. The fog gets thicker making it harder to see. The only reliable sense at this point would be sound. Even with sound though, many creatures are misleading. I can only try to listen for footsteps in the mud. Every now and then I can hear people talking and screaming. Well that sounds like fun...My senses are perked up, I sense hostile Nen. However it's not, well, how do I explain it? It's like, loose and flowing out or not controlled. Chances are it's from someone who doesn't even know they're doing it. Then I feel a very familiar Ren. Alaina what are you up to? "Owen, Gon I think we should move up more." I nod. Gon agrees "Yeah we don't want to loose sight of the examiner." Oh sweet innocent Gon. "I was thinking we should increase distance between Hisoka and us. He smells like bad news." Killua explains. Gon sniffs the air, I swear to God if you're going to say what I think you are- "Huh? He doesn't smell." Gon tilts his head, to which I slap. "Idiot, he meant he's bad news. Not good. Danger. Stay away." I say. Gon's mouth forms an 'O' shape. Shaking my head I turn away, only to look back again. "Kurapika! Leorio! Killua and Owen say we should move up!" Absolutely stupid. Gon, I love you and you know that but you have now earned the rank Idiot Number 2. "Idiot! Can't you read the atmosphere?!" Killua yells at him. Leorio's voice rings through the swamp, "If we could be up there we would be already! Don't worry about us we'll be fine!" Gon seems unsure but Killua convinces him to continue. 'We'll be fine'...'It'll be fine'..."Gahhh!" I clutch my head in pain. Something about that phrase is so familiar, so misleading...so, so, I grab my head again and hunch over. "Owen?!" Gon runs over to me. "Are you okay? What's wrong?!" I sense Killua go to my other side. I can't respond, instead I black out.
Ava falls to ground. I quickly grab her. What happened? Why did she suddenly pass out? Was she too tired? "Gon, put Owen on your back, then let's keep going. The only thing we can do to help him is take him with us." Killua instructs me. Slowly I place Ava onto my back, careful not to hurt her. I start running along side Killua. It's silent between the two of us. The only noise is the slish and slosh of the wet ground, the heavy breathing of the tired applicants, and the screams surrounding us. However the screams are nothing compared to the ones in my head, the pain they are going through is nothing when side to side to the pain I feel. If I was a better brother I would have seen her in pain quicker. I know Ava is the older one- only by two minutes- but I'm still her brother. We have to look out for each other. There's nothing we can't do when we're together. "Gon, relax. Owen's strong he'll be fine. He was probably just tired. He dealt with Alaina, raced with us, and now he had to run in this stupid thick and humid air." Killua tries to reassure me. I look at him, his normally bored eyes are serious. I...guess I'll take his word for it. It's kind of strange hearing other people call Ava 'Owen' and 'He' it's strange calling her that. When will she get rid of her disguise? Wearing that wig must be hard to do as well. For now I need to distract myself. "I wonder if Kurapika and Leorio are okay?" I ask aloud. Before Killua can respond we feel a shake in the ground. The dirt we were standing on falls in, bringing us with it. As we fall I adjust Ava so she's on my chest my back faces the ground. I land with an 'Oomph' that's probably going to leave a bruise. Carefully I sit up, holding Ava. Checking her pulses I make sure she's okay. It took a second but I found her wrists. Her blood courses through her veins, said veins are steadily making thumps. "Gon, Owen?" Killua's voice rings out. "You guys okay?" He asks. "Yeah, Owen is still passed out though, the contact might cause him to sleep longer." I reply. I hear an 'Oh' from Killua. Then a can opens. "Hey you may want to hold onto Owen." Killua suddenly says. I don't question him and grab Ava. Not even a minute later we're spit out of the creature's mouth. "Well, I don't think it liked the taste of us." I laugh sheepishly. Killua holds up an orange can. "That was from Tonpa-san! I guess he saved us." Thanks Tonpa-san, that man is really nice. Killua shrugs. "I guess, I could've gotten out on my own though." I pay his confident remark no mind. "I'm still worried about Kurapika and Leorio though..." Killua sighs. "Pay them no mind, hurry up we'll lose the examiner." He starts off running. I stand, looking over I try to find them. Nope the fog is too thick. I hear a distant scream. Leorio! I go to chase after them but then I remember Ava. I can't chase after them with her, she might be in danger if I do. So I run up to Killua. God, I never thought I would do this but I have to lie. I even said God! Ava really is a bad influence..."Hey Killua. Can you carry Owen for a bit? My shoulders hurt." I say. Killua looks at me and thinks. He stops running. Bending over a bit and putting his hand behind his back. "Yeah sure, just put him on my back." He says. Carefully I take Ava and place her onto Killua. He starts running, once he's somewhat far away, I run to where I heard Leorio. Please still be there.
