Jane's POV:
"So, how are you Melissa? I obviously haven't heard from you for a long time." Joshua took a drink of hot chocolate as he eyed me from head to toe.
After he hugged me outside on Luke's porch, Mrs. Kydd noticed us and brought us inside, offering us some hot chocolate to drink. Apparently she and Luke gave us some time alone, which wasn't really necessary.
"I'm pretty good Josh. But the fact that I can't remember anything is just the worst. I mean, I wish I never got into that accident, you know?" I took a sip of chocolate and tried gathering as many memories as I can, but nothing was coming.
"It wasn't an accident." Joshua murmured to himself.
I'm not clearly sure about what he said, because I wasn't really listening. Gathering memories in my head felt like I was in the room alone. Every word that came out of Joshua's mouth just passed by me like the wind, "You know what? I think we should rest Joshua. I had a pretty rough day.... and night."
As I stood up, preparing myself to walk to the kitchen, he says, "Did you even hear what I just said?"
I stopped and turned to him, "Not really. I wasn't listening carefully, I'm so worn out. We can talk about it tomorrow, but if you want to tell me now, what did you say?"
His eyes widened as he was trying to spill out the words again. But after a few seconds, he turned back into the cup he was holding, "Nothing. You can go rest now."
"Heh! You literally wasted 10 seconds of my time." I walked to him, bent down and kissed his forehead, "Goodnight Joshua, love you."
I managed to hear him say "I love you" back, even though I was already far away from him.
Luke's POV:
I wasn't sure if I was allowed to go downstairs because honestly, I am dying for a hot chocolate too. Damn, my mom just had to skip me out.
I couldn't stop my stomach from growling. It was as if I was having some World War II inside my stomach. Just go downstairs and get a hot chocolate, Luke. My subconscience was right.
I walked down the stairs wearing black sweat pants and a white baggy shirt. I tried to be as quiet as possible, in case the conversation was getting deeper.
I expected to see Joshua and Melissa talking together the moment I arrive downstairs, but I only saw Joshua; sitting there all alone, drinking his hot chocolate.
"Hey dude." Just to break the silence, I had to say that. I headed for the kitchen, poured the chocolate powder onto a glass, poured hot water and started mixing while walking to the living room, "I thought you would be talking with Melissa."
"Nah, she needed the rest. So I let her go."
"Ah, I see. Dude, I'm sorry it's so hard for you. I mean, I wish I never drove that car while she was with me. Damn, I can't even remember a single thing about that acciden--"
"It wasn't an accident, Luke." His interruption made me flinch a little bit in the inside, "Wait what?"
"Um, I gotta go... motel... I'm late." He seemed to be in a hurry, grabbing his side-bag and heading off.
"Wait, late for what?" Before I knew it, he shut the front door and left, "God, am I like invisible or something?" Nevermind about that though, what did he mean by 'It wasn't an accident'. Of course it was!
I stayed seated on the sofa, spacing out. I wouldn't stop thinking about what he said. If what he said is true, then who was the cause of all of this? As I was about to take a sip of hot chocolate, I heard footsteps from the stairs. I'm sure it's Melissa.
