(Original)
I exit the school and begin to walk home, the sun shining in my eyes. After about two minutes I look up from my phone and realize that the fresh cool spring breeze is persistently pushing my hair out of my face. I put my phone down and smile, it's been so long since I've felt this free that I dread going home and dealing with my tedious homework. At that moment I feel the weight of my backpack pulling me down.
The breeze softly pushes against my face and filling my nose with the sweet scent of spring. My mood is brightened once again and I smile while continuing my walk.
I make a right turn onto a dirt road through the woods. I walk until I get to a wood shed, about 20 feet off the path. I put the combination into the lock, I'm shocked I remember it, it's been so long. I pull my bike out and continue down the path. After I lock the shed again, that is.
About 4 years ago my parents got divorced, I was an only child but my mother got full custody. She told me never to see my father again. Well, a few weeks later I was still upset and I was walking home from school when a man jumped into my way. Startled, I am about to yell when I realize it's my father. I jumped into his arms and began to cry. He shushed me and lead me down the dirt road and to the shed. He explained that I could get my bike there and if I followed the path I would end up at his house and I could stay as long as I wanted.
I went there everyday after school for 2 years, never telling my mother. One day I didn't go and I didn't go the next day or the next and I haven't been since. But today it jut feels right to go there. I bike for 10 minutes before I see the cabin. I hope off my bike and mount it against a tree. The driveway is empty but the door is open anyway. I walk in, nothing's changed, everything is exactly where it was the last time I came. I walk over to the cabinets and grab a bowl and a sauce pan. I boil two cups of water and add some Ramen noodles. Once everything's ready I go onto the back porch and enjoy the view with my ramen.
I take out my sketch book and begin to draw, taking bites of ramen from time to time. I sit out there for almost two hours without even realizing. I jump when I hear a voice behind me.
"I thought you'd never come back." I turn and see my father in the door frame. I put my sketch book down and hug him tight. It's been two years since I've seen my father, that's too long.
He hugs me back and we begin to talk, he asks about mom and school. He threatens to kill any boy I go out with and I laugh.
"Are you staying for dinner?" He asks after he finishes looking through my sketch book.
"Umm, I don't kn-" I am cut off by my phone ringing, I see it's mom and I can tell by his expression he knows it's her too. I sigh and answer.
"WHERE HAVE YOU BEEN?! I'VE BEEN WORRIED SICK!!!" She screams into the phone.
"If you were that worried you would have called sooner." I respond with an attitude in my voice.
"Don't give me attitude!! I am your mother!!! Just come home from wherever you are now." She demands.
"Nah, I'm gonna stay right where I am."
"Excuse me?"
"Ya, I think I'll stay here for a few days, I'll come by for a few things tomorrow."
"TONY KELVIN BAIN! YOU LIS-"
"Love you! Bye!" I say and hang up. I look up to see my father looking at the ground. I smile and say, "I'd love to stay for dinner."
"Tony, you have to go home." He says and looks up at me with empty eyes.
"But, but dad it's been two years, it's horrible there. She's never home, when she is all she talks about is business. She doesn't care about me. She's keeping me from my father." I argue and tears form in my eyes.
"I'm sorry boo, but she's your mother and you need to go home." He says and hugs me tight to his chest. "You can keep visiting for as long as you want as long as at the end of the day you are under your mothers roof."
I cry into his shoulder and it takes a few minutes for me to calm down. He drops me off at home, my mother attacks me, yelling, screaming at me all the way up to my room until I can't take it.
I turn around in my door way abruptly causing her to stop for a moment. She doesn't stop talking however, I close my eyes, take a breath and say, "Fuck off and goodnight!" I slam my door and lock it.Comment "3" if you would like this story to continue.
Felt inspired by the nice weather the other day, also, I had ramen for the first time and I actually liked it. Catch you later 😜
