How It Could Been (part 8)

    "And where have you been?" Petra whisper/yells when Levi walks in. "With the Jaegers." He said as he took off his gloves. "Why?" He asked turning to her "Well, Hange has been here for hours. Thank god Haru has been keeping her occupied, such a good sport." Petra explains whispering "WHAT?!?!?" Levi yells then angrily marches into every room until he at last bursts into Haru's room to find Hange on his bed talking to Haru. "FOUR-EYES!!!!" Then picks her up brings her down the stairs and flings her out the door and he walks out slamming the door behind him. "Of course. Your height never effects your strength." She says then gets up, brushing the dirt off herself. "What the hell have you been doing at my house for hours?" Levi asks angrily standing tall (Well, sort of). "I needed to talk to you. Plus why have you been gone all day?" She asks still brushing away dirt "I was with the jaegers, which reminds me. YOU HAVE A JOB!" He yells at her as he walks towards her. "Since when do you hang with the jaegers. And of course I have a job, what do you think I do go from house to house begging for food?" She says fixing her hair. "I visit the jaegers occasionally and ya that's what I thought you did." He said picking twigs out of her hair. "Don't be silly Levi." She said fiddling with the grass she had just pulled out of her hair. They were silent for quite some time as they finished cleaning up Hange, Levi refused to help her get the dirt off her face.
    "Your son is really smart." She says when they sit on the stone steps outside his house. "I know." He said looking into the forrest in his backyard. "Not just with the basics but in general, he's a pretty quick learner." She said trying to look into his eyes. "He is my son, Hange." He replied looking at his feet. "Levi, I don't think you understand." Hange said, serious for once. "He's like Armin smart." She continued praising Haru. "I know, I know, I've told him countless times but his head is in the clouds, all he ever talks to me about is ODM gear and Titans." Levi said looking back into the forest "Well, can you blame him? I mean Titans are AWESOME!!! The way they-" "The way they slaughtered countless humans and killed so many of our friends and family, how they ruined the lives of so many ended even more and how they almost brought down all of humanity. Hange, how the hell is that 'Awesome'?" Levi interrupted outraged. Hange let her head fall and a glare came across her glasses and looked up at him, "We had our good times too, you met Petra, you met me, Eren, your cousin, Armin, not to mention Erwin. Try to remember the good times think of all the friends you made." "And the ones that died." He said coldly thinking of Isabel and Farlan and the underground and his mom, technically his mom wasn't killed by the Titans but he still lost her.
    "See Levi it's impossible to talk to you when you're like this, it's no fun I can't try to break you." she said trying to get him to smile which she knew was a lost cause but she never gave up on it.
"Hange?" Levi says quietly as he looks up into the starry night sky. "Hmm?" She says looking into the forest. "Did you come up with that spot the difference thing at the museum?" He asked turning towards her. She falls back laughing and grips Levi's shoulder with one hand while the other tightly grabs her stomach. She nods her head unable to talk because she was laughing so hard she could hardly breathe. "What else was your doing?" He asks slapping her hand away from his sleeve. "Well, I created the remembrance hall for all those who, you know,died. I created the Titan learning center as well as the center on you! Let's see what else I created-" "What was that last one?" He interrupts and his head shoots up and their eyes meet. "Each squad leader got their own area, even you." She said jabbing her finger at him, smiling.
"Wait you didn't see it?" She asks surprised and he shook his head his hair hitting him as he does so. She laughs and manages to say,"Well you will have to see it, I put the most effort into yours." He rolled his eyes and pointed to the gate, she knew it was her time to leave but she couldn't stop laughing, eventually it settled down to a giggle and she walked down the road stumbling over every little thing.
Levi sighed and went back into the house he found Petra cleaning and kissed the top of her head and went upstairs, he found Emiko huddled in a ball under her covers fast asleep, he bent over to say goodnight. Just as he was about to kiss her forehead she sprung her arms around him which caught him off guard, "I love you daddy." She whispered in his ear then lied back down and went to sleep, Levi smiled and left her room. When he went into Haru's room, he was asleep on a pile of books and found many notes on Titans stuck in his hand. Levi picked him up and brought him over to his bed where he kissed him goodnight and left the room. For the first time in many years, Levi slept through the whole night.
