Jace and Alec were training when Jace's phone started ringing.
"Hold on, it could be Clary. Come to think of it I haven't heard anything from her recently." Jace said, confused. He and Alec had been training for a few hours, and Jace lost track of time.
He picked up the phone, he felt a pang of dissapointment. It wasn't Clary it was Simon.
"Hello?" Simon asked. He sounded on edge.
"I'm here, daylighter. What do you want?" Jace said
"It's Clary. I think she's fine, but she passed out." Simon said quickly.
"What happened? Is she Okay? Did she get hurt? Did--"The questions came tumbling out of his mouth. Jace saw Alec come off of the training mats.
"What happened?" Alec asked, alarmed.
Jace just shook his head at Alec. "SIMON! Is Clary alright? Where are you guys?
"I'm on my way to the institute now. I'll explain everything when I get there, just be at the doors when I pull up." And then Simon hung up.
Jace swore. "What happened? What did Simon say? Alec asked again.
"I don't know he didn't tell me all that much. Just that Clary passed out and they're coming here now. I gotta go downstairs and meet them." Jace said anxiously.
Jace thought he heard Alec say something, but he was already out of the training room, headed for the elavator.
By the time he got down there, he saw a light gray car pull up to the curb. Jace ran torwards it just as Simon got out. "What the hell happened!" Jace yelled at him.
"It;s a long story, we have to get Clary inside. I think she's okay, She just fainted."
Jace opened the back doors and pulled an unconcious Clary out. He held her in his arm as he raced up the institute steps. "You won't be able to come in, it's hallowed ground." Jace called behind him. Simon didn't stop though. "I might, I mean I can walk in sunlight. I can probaly enter the institute." He heard Simon say.
Turns out Simon was right. Jace heard his soft footsteps behind him as he ran Clary into the infirmary.
"Simon, go get Isabelle or Alec and tell them to get Maryse, to call a Silent Brother!" Jace said as he laid Clary down on a bed.
Simon looked unsure. "Now!" Jace yelled. He heard him run to get help.
He checked Clary's pulse; it was normal. He felt the steady beat, thump, thump, thump...
"Come on Clary , Wake up. Pease Clary. Wake Up." He urged her quietly. He noticed his own voice was shaky with fear.
She stirred. "Jace?" She moaned.
"Clary yes, I'm here. Are you okay? Do you feel alright?" Of course she's not alright, He thought, She just passed out.
She tried to sit up, but Jace quickly put his hands on her shoulders. "No, lie down Clary."
"Okay" She flopped back down on the bed.
"What happened?"Jace asked softly.
"Um, I went Christmas shopping with Simon, and my mom texted me to come home. She had said it was an emergency. So we went to Luke's, and- and there wasn't anybody around. Luke's truck was there, but there wasn't sign of either of them there. Not even a note. And my mom didn't text me back." Her voice was shaking. "I know something happened to her, Jace, Something happened to Mom and Luke." Clary was on the verge of tears. Jace took and entwined his fingers through hers and squeezed it. "It's happening again. Isn't it?" Tears streamed down her face, she looked him straight in the eyes pleadingly.
Just then Izzy burst through the infirmary doors, followed by Mom, Simon, and Alec.
"Oh my God Clary, are you okay?"
"Yeah, I think I'm okay now." Clary said. "Just a little dizzy."
"Did you call a Silent Brother?" He asked Maryse.
"Yes, Brother Zachariah is on his way."
"What? Wait, no I'm fine! I don't need a Silent Brother!" Clary said in protest.
Jace shook his head at her. "Yes you do, and besides it's about time for my check-up anyway. And come to think of it, he might help us figure out where your mother and Luke are."
"Your check-up?" She said in confusion. "Oh, right. Heavenly fire."
Maryse looked down at their entwined hands. "Clary, have you ever felt Jace's heavenly fire? Have you ever been burned by it, or been shocked?" She asked curiously.
"No, never."
"Do you feel you have control over it, Jace?" Maryse asked again.
Jace sighed. "No, mom. I can feel it when it's coming but I can't stop it."
