Danica

"Okay thanks Angie. Bye," I signed off & put down the phone. I called to try & see if Kyle was still okay but negatory.

Me

Please come over

I stared at the conversation with my hands together, I knew what I sent was risky, especially after what I said but damnit, I couldn't.

Hayes

But I thought we couldn't see each other anymore?

Me

As a friend. I need a friend

Hayes

Gimme ten

I sighed & put down my phone as I stood outside to wait for him. After ten minutes I saw his car pull up with his window rolled down & a smirk crept upon his face.

"Care for a ride?" he asked.

"My mom isn't home so," I shrugged & ran towards his car. He opened the car door for me & I got in as he started driving.

"Still no sigh of Kyle?" he asked & I nodded.

"Maybe it's fate telling you something," he shrugged & pulled to the McDonalds drive through.

"Hayes are you seriously buying me food?" I gasped.

"Well yeah. I mean. You're sad & that's what friends do," he smiled.

"Thank you so much," I smiled & he ordered for me as we sat in the parking lot & ate our food.

"So how long had Kyle been seeing each other girls? That's if you're okay with talking about it?" Hayes asked as he ate some fries.

"Kim tells me it's been five months because five months ago he tried to get with her while I was away at camp so yeah," I nodded & ate.

"Wild. & what did she do?" he asked.

"She ran out because she knew. She's a good friend. I just thought it was dick of her to tell Kyle about us because she started asking questions after she saw us in the hall a while back," I explained.

"So that's how he found out," he nodded.

"Yeah. But she said it was a slip of a tongue & knew if she told him then he'd break up with me without me supposedly getting hurt," I ate more.

"Yeah but look where it brought us," his eyes wandered.

"But Kim had good intentions. I don't blame her. She's my best friend," I smiled.

"Yeah," he went quiet then stopped eating, "how long have you & Kyle been dating?"

"Almost two years," I stirred my french fry in dipping sauce.

"Oh. Same with Jody & I...well before we broke up," his voice went quiet.

"How did that go down?" I asked & he told me all of it. The dinner that cost a fortune & the hallway. It was all so terrible.

"I'm so sorry," I sighed & hugged him.

"It's okay," he murmured & grabbed a chip from behind me. I giggled at his action.

"You ready to go?" he asked. I nodded & we headed back to his car to being our journey home.

The ride back consisted of silence until Hayes finally broke it.

"When are you gonna break up with him?" he asked with a croak in his voice.

"I don't know. But very soon. I promise," & it ended there. Hayes was tired of guessing. He just wanted it to be over so he could whisk me away but then again, I needed my time just like he was getting his time.

He got to my house & we walked back to my porch. We just stood across from each other & stared, analysing each other's faces & lips. I walked closer to him & put my hands on the back of his neck & rested my forehead on his.

"Thanks," I whispered & kissed him softly.
