I’m fat. Like really fat. I’m so fat, that when I stand on an incline, I start rolling downhill. Because of this, my life has been full of bullying and taunting from my classmates, and even from my parents. My parents have always beat me, both of them being perpetually drunk, of course, but thanks to my many, many layers of blubber, I've managed not to have any damaged vitals.
Though at school, people always run for their lives screaming as I roll down the halls like a bowling ball, which just about reinforced the fact that I’d never make any friends. Like during the swimming unit in PE, I had to wrap myself in a tarp as a swimsuit, and when I slipped and fell into the pool, I did so big a cannonball I drowned the entire school.
Eventually, my dad tired of my mother. One day, he threw her off a cliff and has been sober ever since. And quite happy. He even got married. So when I was eight, my stepmother gave birth to twins, a boy and a girl. They matured so fast that now, they’re actually a few months older than me. My stepsister is a few months younger than her brother, despite them being born within minutes of each other.
But of course, they’re part of the popular crowd at my high school, which means I never get to interact with them. Being biological miracles and defying the laws of nature, combined with drop-dead gorgeous looks, does boost your popularity status. They’re so popular that in a corner of the cafeteria, they have their own fancy restaurant where they eat lunch with whoever is lucky enough to merit such an honor for the day. They also have part of a private bus, solely for themselves, attached to the regular school bus we all have to get on for the field trip today.
I’m not exactly sure how I’m going to get into the bus, probably because I rival the width of the bus itself. I’ve never been inside a school bus before, even though I’ve been on a bunch of other field trips which have all required going on busses, but all those times they had to strap me to the back since I wouldn’t fit in, until my weight eventually caused the bus to break down.
After a little while of staring aimlessly at the door willing for it to get bigger, my stepmother, who’s chaperoning this field trip, and a bunch of other people shove me through the door and I miraculously manage to fit in. That is, until I started rolling down the length of the bus and finally stop at The Curtain. The Curtain leads to the private part of the bus where The Twins, my stepsiblings, are. But a jolt from the bus as it prepares to leave directs me straight through.
They’re extremely startled when I roll through. Shock is mirrored in their eyes, which keep changing color in the light. They’re as gorgeous as the myths go, with unreal beauty and insanely chiseled features.
“Who are you?”
“You guys are my half siblings,” I blurt out stupidly.
“Oh, that explains why you’re always in our house. I just thought you were some kind of beanbag. But we’re not actually related. Our mother, your stepmother, is Aphrodite, but our father is actually a rock.” I can’t believe my stepsister is actually talking to me! Gasp!
“That explains your chiseled features. And why you rival the gods with your looks.” I sigh dreamily, taking in the sight of my stepbrother, who as it turns out isn’t actually related to me.
I’ve always dreamed of talking to him, since after all, I’ve been in love with him since I was in the womb and I’ve stalked him on social media since before he was on social media. “But how’s your father a rock?”
“You know, you’d look uh-mazing if you weren’t such a—a boulder,” my stepsister tells me, ignoring my previous question like all those years she’d ignored my presence, despite us living in the same house. “You should really lose that weight. Do some push-ups right now.”
