"You look hot as fuck and you're not even trying. That's my best friend," Lisa says excitedly, her dimples show as she smiles widely.
Maya laughs and shakes her head while she watches Lisa jump around happily, looking for something to wear.
They are getting ready to go to a football game—an unusual thing for Maya.
"The guys I was talking to you about before are coming to pick us up, actually," she says, switching the shirt she had on with a random white one.
Maya sits down again, waiting for her friend to finish. "Well that's going to be an awkward ride."
Lisa runs around her room searching for something, her eyes focused on the floor. A slight emotion of relief crosses her face when she finds her pair of black shoes next to her nightstand.
"It's going to be awkward only if you make it," she says while putting on her shoes.
"Right," Maya agrees.
"They are super nice, don't worry. Just be you. It is very hard to not like you anyways," Lisa says before standing up. Her black hair is straight and falls nicely on her back. Her dark eyes are fixated on Maya and her lips are slightly curved upwards.
"That was sweet," Maya looks at her with the usual tenderness that is hidden in her deep brown eyes.
Their conversation comes to an end when Lisa reads a text off of her phone.
"They're here," she says.
"Alright. Let's go."
Maya quickly grabs her phone and puts it in the back pocket of her jeans. They run downstairs and outside of the house and they are welcomed by two guys standing against a little red car.
Before getting in and sitting in the passenger's seat, Lisa greets the guys with a hug and a cheeky smile.
Maya is introduced by Lisa and she gives both of them a soft smile before hopping in the car.
She is seated next to one of the guys, on the backseat, he said his name is Marcus.
His curly hair is dark just as his skin and just as his eyes. Maya notices that he has beautiful smile, comforting, even.
His eyes wander, looking outside the window, while they listen to the faint voices of the radio playing in the background.
Lisa and the other guy seem to get along pretty well, they make some conversation and sometimes laugh a little too.
There's no awkwardness, there is no uncomfortableness.
The are just separated by an invisible barrier that stands between the two in the front and the two in the back.
In one place there is laughter, words are spoken and music is playing. In the other reigns silence, unspoken thoughts, fugacious looks and curiosity.
But in all that, there is serenity.
--
"We are going to get some food, we will be right back." That's the last thing Lisa says before leaving Maya and Marcus alone.
They have arrived and the place is packed. As the two are sitting on the bleachers, people are everywhere and everyone is there. Cheerleaders are getting ready and Maya can spot Sofia's unmistakable blonde hair. But she can also see Alexander.
His hair is as usual. He has his helmet on his right hand and his uniform on his body. He is talking to his girlfriend, not seeming very interested as he runs a hand through his hair, sighing.
