Epilogue

Three months later. 

“It’s great to have some time together, right? Just the two of us.”

Annabeth laughed.

“Yeah, Percy. Such a long time since we’ve actually had some peace together.”

Percy wrapped his arm around Annabeth.

“I love you.”

Annabeth snuggled up against him, taking in his familiar seaweed smell.

They warmed themselves in each other’s embrace, looking out at the sunset, as Percy started braiding Annabeth’s hair.

“Since when did you learn how to braid my hair?” Annabeth joked. Percy grinned.

“Piper taught me.” Annabeth stifled a laugh, but then her smile faded.

“You know, can I ask you… something?”

“Of course, anything.”

Annabeth stared out at the sea, admiring the yellow-orange stain of the sunset sky.

“Can you tell me what did Gaia tell you? Two months ago?”

Percy didn’t reply. His hand was playing with the golden strands of Annabeth’s honey-blonde hair.

Annabeth turned her head towards Percy, looking at him sadly.

“Percy?”

“I… I can’t tell you. I’m so sorry, Annabeth.” Percy answered, still fiddling with Annabeth’s hair.

Annabeth nodded slowly.

“It’s okay. I understand. But, Percy…?”

“Huh?”

“Please stop protecting me. I don’t want it.”

“Annabeth…”

“It endangers you, and, I’ve had enough of you… dying and I just…”

“Shh… it’s okay. It’s okay, Annabeth. I’m sorry I got you worried.”

Annabeth felt a tear roll down her cheek.

“I’m so scared, Percy. I’m afraid something would happen to you. And I’ll lose you, and I’ll never see you again, and… and…”

“I love you, Annabeth.”

Annabeth smiled slightly.

“Promise you’ll never leave me again." 

Percy frowned slightly. 

“I’ll try.”

“Promise.” Annabeth’s voice was full of determination. Percy laughed sadly.

Just lie to her, just once more, adding up to the lies you have already told her.

“I promise.”

Annabeth smiled and wrapped herself closer into Percy’s arms. 

“I love you too, Percy.”

I was thinking about I'm Sorry Isn't Enough, Annabeth. But then my friend said I'm Sorry Isn't Enough is better. Yeah. :D
