the wind against my face was frigid and i could feel my cheeks turning red. the rustles of the dead leaves on the tree branches above us sounded like a beautifully conducted melody. i noticed every single detail that surrounded me until she nudged me.
"hellooooooo...nat are you zoned out?"
"sorry yeah i kinda got lost in the scenery"
elise positioned her body so that natasha could see her friend better, "well i was saying...why are we out here? it's freezing"
i rolled my eyes and looked at her dead in the eyes, "because someone needed to go outside to take a break from their work...someone named elise."
"hmmm i don't know who that is"
i smiled and squinted my eyes, "she sounds like a loser"
elise playfully slapped my upper arm, "hey! you meanie" i giggled and reassured her, "you're not a loser and even if you were, you'd be my loser"
we both got up from the bench and started walking back to the apartment. i wrapped my arm around elise's neck and we walked side by side until we reached the door. once i opened the door, a gust of warm wind caressed our faces and the smell of a sweet, minty scent, that came from a candle we had burned earlier, filled our noses. elise ran over to the couch like a 6 year old and plopped herself down abruptly.
"bud you're gonna hurt yourself one day" i said while pouring myself a hot cup of coffee. elise shrugged, "ya gotta live your life! plus even if i did get hurt, it would be a good story." i laughed as i was walking over to sit next to elise, "you're odd bauman. i love it" elise smiled and hugged me from the side, "i love you buddy!!"
elise kicked up her legs and propped them on the coffee table as she was turning on the tv, "ohhhh no, elise you're doing your work." "but but-" "no buts" elise chuckled, "are you sure because there's one here..." she pointed to her bottom, "...and there's one here" she had tickled me towards my lower half and i giggled uncontrollably. "eliiiseeeeee! stoooppppp!"
after elise had finally stopped tickling me and hugged me more, she tried persuading me to let her watch a movie with me instead of doing her work.
she succeeded.
elise ended up not doing any of her work, but it's okay because my best friend and i watched 3 movies that night. we ate 2 and a half bags of popcorn and a liter of soda. we laughed until our stomachs ached or until one of us cried. it was okay because we were both happy. and that's all i want for her. always.
