Alex ran after me, but I was faster than him in the woods. No matter how great vampire senses are, he still bumps into things like a dumb human. I bounded lithely to my dad's house, where he was sulking and waiting for me. I was taken aback when I couldn't get through the door. "Great way to show me the love, Dad." I grumbled sarcastically.
"Let her in, would you, Selena?" Dad gestured to me. My eyes locked on a bracelet that was on her wrist. Vervain. I nodded my head a little at the bracelet to show Dad what had me a little scared-looking. His eyes popped. "Hm. What's this, Selena, honey?"
She flushed a little. "Did Carlie want it?" Selena looked at me, a bit discouraged.
"No!" I replied at once and broke the bracelet. I stared her in the eyes, "If you ever do that again I swear I'll make your death slow and sweet." I growled. "Now, don't ever let anyone compel you again. You only listen to me. You only let me compel you." She nodded in a trance.
Alex appeared at the doorway. "Selena, is it? Could you be a darling and allow me to come in?" He inquired in the sweetest of voices.
"No, Selena, do not ever let this man in." I was getting a hang of this compelling thing. I knew one thing; I needed to hunt, and do it soon. Compelling gets sloppy when you're thirsty.
"Are vampires able to walk in the sun? I mean, you three can." Selena questioned innocently. I could walk in the sun? Well, that was new. I'd been avoiding it, and I noticed that I had been in the sun five seconds ago and didn't burn to ash. Ugh, I've just had too much to think about lately, I thought.
"We are a part of a genetic bloodline that is immune to the sun. And that is why I wasn't worried about walking in the sun, as you told me to." Alex explained. "Our family is royal. We were created by those created by the first known vampire ever. It's really an honor."
"You never put that memory in my head." I accused lightly, considering the circumstances. Alex grinned flashily and zipped around the house, throwing rocks at windows. I winced at the loud grating noise I heard from every tiny shard of glass breaking into a million pieces.
"You come out or I'll come in!" He called to me.
"Don't, under any threats, let him in." I grabbed Selena's shoulders. I then rolled my eyes and caught a rock that flew into the doorway, and I whipped it back at him. The rock hit him square into the middle of his chest, at his sternum. Bingo, I thought.
"What difference is there between you and me? You compel her every five seconds." He smirked.
"I'm doing it so she doesn't get ripped apart, and get us killed in the process. So forgive me if I'm doing it wrong!" I growled in his face. "Oh, and I'll rip your hand off again if you don't leave."
I was distracted enough for him to use his vampire speed to come too close to me, and kissed me deeply. I shut down in his arms, and my emotions raged. Anger- because he was kissing me, regret- that I liked it, sadness- because I'd left him once and I might be going back.
CHAPTER 3
Alex kissed me again, softer, but yet even deeper, and my knees grew weak. Before I knew it, my mind was acting against me and my lips were moving with his. I growled at myself, and he let go of me abruptly. "I don't want you ripping my tongue out, too, Carlie." He mumbled plainly.
"Why did you do that? What do you have to prove to me? You're better at this vampire thing than I am, I know. I'm weak and I care about human lives and I don't want to change their lives like you seem to want to." I whimpered into my hand and used my other one to push him away. His forest green eyes looked caring enough for Selena, who stood behind us.
"You don't love him, though. That is what you said. I hope you know I don't like it when people lie and then cry about it, Carlie." Her voice was stern, like a mother's voice. She reminded me of my own mother.
Alex ignored her, and so did I. "I must prove that I love you. That I need you and I want you and I can't live without you." He kissed me again, as if that was going to persuade me that he was telling the truth.
Then something dawned on me. "You killed her," I gasped, and Alex's eyes grew huge.
