The Streets of New York City
Using the iPhones we had bought in London, Scorpius and I search up our address and walk towards it. At least we think we are.
"Are you sure we can trust this thing to get us to the right place?" Scorpius asks me after walking for about 15 minutes.
"We have no choice," I respond. "We're Mug- humans now. We need to be able to trust their technology."
"It's flawed though, look." He says. As I look over his phone, he says "The blue figure, I'm pretty sure that's supposed to be me, isn't stepping at the same pace I am."
"Scorpius, calm down a little. It's not going to be perfect, it's human technology after all." I say.
Scorpius was hesitant to live a Muggle life with me. When I brought up the idea, he had told me I was insane to put all my hard work in school to waste. Like me, however, he wasn't sure where he had belonged in the wizarding world career wise. There's only so much you can do there. That's probably the only reason he agreed to come with me.
After walking for a few more minutes, we reach our destination.
"This is our new home." Scorpius says in awe.
I look up at the brick house. It seems big, but not too big. A perfect size for two people. The landscaping is beautiful. There are bushes on either side of the front door and a tree on the side of the house with a tire attached for whatever reason. We must somehow now be just outside the city as for there are a bunch of similar houses in the same place.
"Let's go inside." I suggest. I search for the key underneath the welcome mat. Once I find it, I turn the key in the door to open it.
I've never seen anything like it. High ceilings, beautiful furnitures, and an expensive looking chandelier hanging in the middle of the living space.
"This is amazing." Scorpius says. "It looks so much different than the pictures we looked at. Are you sure this is even real?"
I think for a second. "No," I finally answer. "But if this is a dream, I don't want to be woken up quite yet."
"Agreed." He says as he continues to explore the house.
Following his example, I walk around some and try to take in my surroundings. However, my mind is preoccupied with thoughts of my family and friends back in London. It's only 8:00am here, but it's about 1:00pm back in London due to the time changes. They might be eating lunch, but I'm sure my parents won't mind a disturbance from me. I take out my phone and give them a call.
"Albus?" Mum answers on the third ring. "Is everything okay?"
"Yes, Mum, everything is going great. Scorpius and I just got to our house, actually." I say, trying to calm down her mom-nerves.
"That's great! How is New York? Are the streets crowded like everyone on the... what's it called... the internet had said?"
"New York's great, very different from London. But the streets aren't that crowded though. Everyone may be at work though." I respond.
"Speaking of work, your father is at the Ministry. Should I have him call back when he gets home?"
"Doesn't he have his new cell phone on him though?" I unconsciously sit down on a couch.
A pause from Mum's side of the call. "He should have it but I wouldn't be surprised if he forgot it again."
"I'll send him a text then. Even if he doesn't have it on him currently he'll see it when he gets home. I wouldn't want to call his work phone number incase he's busy. Is James there? Or Lily?"
"I'm pretty sure they're still sleeping. You know, they were up early and need as much sleep as they can get as teenagers."
"Yeah, Mum, of course I would know. Don't forget I'm still a teenager too."
She sighs."That's right. I'm sorry, honey. It's just so hard to believe with you moving away already."
I laugh. "Especially with James being older than me and still living with you."
She allows herself to laugh a little. "Exactly. Well, I'll let you get going, I know both you and Scorpius want to go explore some. Say hello to him for me, by the way!"
"I will. I love you, Mum."
"I love you too, honey. Stay safe."
She hangs up the phone before I get the chance to. "My Mum says hi!" I yell to Albus.
I get up from the couch and put my phone in my pocket, ready to explore the city with my best friend.
