The cool August air kissed my skin as I sat in my grandmothers rocking chair on the front porch. I was looking down the quiet little beach town's street, kept company by my thoughts. Grandmother came out and sat in the chair next to me. She sat down a glass of iced tea.
"Its lovely isn't it. The quiet." Grandmother said.
"Agreed." I replied. I looked at the sold sign in the house next to us.
" Anyone new visiting town today?" She asked
"As you said. Quiet as usual." I said. "You'd be the first to know if there was someone new around here."
"It's just been so long since we had a new face around here. I miss some excitement. You going to the beach today?
"Ya. Just letting the sunscreen dry." I replied. She got up and patted my sunburn shoulder and went inside. I went around to the garage and grabbed my backpack and surfboard and bike. I balanced the board on my head and rode down to the boardwalk. I walked down to the spot where I always went. Close to one of the huge rocks by a cliff I sat up my board on one side and me and my things on the other, trying to protect my skin from the harsh North Carolina sunlight. I put in my headphones and blasted Lana del Rey. I only looked up for a moment when I saw someone skateboarding down the boardwalk. He was trying to do some fancy tricks or whatever. He slipped and fell off to the sand and rolled over on his side. I got up and ran over to make sure he was okay.
"If you had looked down you'd have noticed there's a missing board on the dock." I said
"Well no shit Sherlock." He replied.
He rolled over to his back and flinched.
"Damn this hurts like a mother." He groaned.
He opened his eyes and looked at me. I could feel my cheeks getting redder than they already were. He had sunkissed skin and messy black hair. He had a tattoo on his lower left abdomen and the most vibrant hazel eyes you've ever seen. He looked like something right out of a Lana song. I looked the other way after I realised I'd been staring a hair too long. He sat up and laughed. "Take a picture it lasts longer."
"Oh you wish." I rolled my eyes.
"The names Roman."
"June." I replied.
"You look like you're something outta the fifties. How long you have you been living here?" He asked with a smirk.
"Since I was 3" I replied.
"Just moved here." He said. "It's a quiet little place. I'm not sure I like it."
"Get used to it. Doesn't get too loud around here." I said as I drew circles in the sand.
"Will I see you around?" He asked.
"If I want you to see me around." I replied. Not looking up from my circles. He laughed. He had a smile that made my cheeks go red again.
"There's a movie playing at Carl's tonight. I hope I see you there." He said. "I don't know too many people around here."
I met his eyes and smiled.
"Maybe."
