Contrary to popular belief, Sally isn't a helpless little girl like everyone portrays her to be. While everyone does care for her and view her as their little sister, they all know she's capable of taking care of herself. This doesn't mean she's entirely independent, however, as she still has the mentality of an 8 year old and needs help with a few things (e.g cooking, getting things down from high heights, ect, ect.)
