Alexander was not afraid of many things. Though he was sixteen, he was still very young in the sense that he had not yet been exposed to many things in the outside world. His older brother, who had taken care of him for most of his life, had sheltered him from many of the horrors of the outside world.

His older brother had kept him from the horrors of the outside world by doing all he could to keep him inside. He homeschooled Alex for a long time before it became clear that Alex was much brighter than he was and with that he was thrust into the public school system.

He had joined right in the middle of the year when teachers were throwing out tests and projects and essays and trips like crazy. During this time he befriended a certain curly-headed boy with freckles that Alexander adored. The two boys were truly in love, no doubt about it- Alexander just didn't know what love was.

It was January 26th, the day South Carolina High was coming back from their trip to the mountains. The previous day it had snowed and now the bus was stuck in snow now. This wasn't much of a problem for John who had grown up near the snow. He knew getting stuck in snow was common for residents in the states on the East Coast so he was calm at the moment.

Alex, however, was completely petrified at this moment. It was fun jumping in the snow and throwing snowballs at John, however now he was terrified now. He wasn't used to snow, let alone snow blocking off roadways and causing delays. He was scared they might slide off the side of the mountain with how slippery snow was.

He looked over at John who had his eyes closed, seemingly unaware of what was happening. Alex whispered his name, his eyes wide. He could feel his heart in his throat and needed consolation that they wouldn't slip right off the mountain. He clutched onto John's arm, whispering his name louder, "John! Please!" He said, his voice panicked but low. John's eyes cracked opened and he stared over at Alex, his eyes glazed over, "Alex?" He asked, his voice hoarse. He rubbed his eyes and sat up in the bus seat, "What's wrong? Are you okay?" He asked, clearing his throat as panic washed over his face. His eyes were wide and wild now, changing almost immediately as he saw Alex scared.

"John- there's snow. The bus is stopped." Alex said, his voice cracking. He made sure he was quiet. No one else seemed to be scared, only him. He was embarrassed he was scared, but how could he not worry? Did no one else see that they could all potentially slip right off the mountain into a ditch and most likely die?

He clutched tighter onto John's arm, his breathing rapid. He buried his face into John's shoulder, his fingers gripping tightly onto the fabric of his jacket.

"Alex? Alex, look at me." John said, his voice smooth and calming. Alex looked up at John, his bottom lip trembling much similar to that of a child.

"It's only snow, it happens here. You're safe- I promise." Alex's watery eyes started to cease, his breathing still somewhat rapid.

"You're always safe with me, I promise."
