Alexander stood at the door of the diner, waiting for his date to show up. The only reason he was here was because his friend, Lafayette, said he needed to find someone. He didn't think so. He enjoyed his moments alone, he would be in his own head with no distractions in his room writing to keep himself occupied.

Alexander loved writing. He'd stay up when the rest of the world was sleeping and write until his entire hand would cramp up. Even then, Alexander wouldn't stop. His hand would keep writing. Sometimes his hand would move faster than his brain and he would get caught up in his words until they became a big jumble of letters he could barely understand.

Maybe that's why when Alex signed up for an online profile, no one exactly wanted to meet up very quickly. His bio was nothing short of an essay explaining what he likes and dislikes, what he does for a living, his favorite colors and foods and anything else he found interesting about himself. He was shocked when after a few weeks of no matches someone had decided to message him.

littlejemmy: hey!

Alexander called Lafayette as soon as he got the message, blabbering on and asking for advice. To be honest, he didn't listen to much of what Lafayette said except 'Don't tell him your life story, make your replies short and simple.' So he did, somewhat.

adotham: Hello! I'm Alexander.

While waiting for a response, he looked over the person's profile. He scanned the man's profile and smiled, he wasn't that bad looking. There were a few photos of him with other people, apparently his name was James.

littlejemmy: i saw! (: i'm james

littlejemmy: i'm new to this sort of thing

littlejemmy: i was just wondering if you'd like to go catch something to eat tomorrow?

Alexander grinned, typing a somewhat long reply that honestly could be summed up with a simple, "I'd love to, how about the diner on Fifth Street?"

That's where Alexander was now, the diner, waiting for his date to arrive. James was already fifteen minutes late and he had started getting sympathetic glances from the customers.

Soon a man ran in, right past Alex. He had a thick coat on as he turned his head, curly hair flying to the side, "Alexander?" He called and Alex looked up, "Uh, here?"

The man turned around. He certainly wasn't James, no no this man knocked James out of the ballpark. He let out an awkward chuckle, "You don't look like your profile picture." He joked and the man laughed, Alexander's heart beating quickly in his chest.

"No, my name's John. John Laurens." He said, extending a gloved hand for Alex to shake. He took it, giving it a firm shake then letting his hand fall to his side.

"Sorry, if I'm not what you wanted to see." Said John sheepishly, "Can we grab a booth? I'll explain there."

The two men made their way to a booth, sitting across from eachother. John removed his coat, letting it fall to the seat, "My friend who talked to you, that's James. Poor thing, honestly. He has severe anxiety, you know? His friend tried to set him up with you, he was going to come honestly, he just got too scared at the end. He wanted to text you and say he wasn't going but he was afraid and asked me to come."

Alex frowned, but shook his head, "I'm glad he sent you. Wouldn't want to be sat here all alone." He said and John smiled, "Pretty little thing like you, all alone. Poor thing." He said in a cocky tone. Normally, Alexander would have just stood up and left, he thought of those words as something he'd never want to hear, but as they came out of John's mouth, they were nice. They flowed so smoothly.

Alexander just nodded, his face heating up. He wasn't watching, but he could tell John was staring at him with a smirk on his face. He was shocked honestly, hardly anyone could get him to shut up. Now, a stranger who he had just met not even ten minutes ago had him biting his tongue because for once in his life he didn't want to say anything stupid that would screw him over right now.

John called over a waiter and ordered himself a drink, "Babygirl, what would you like to drink?"

Alex's face turned redder at the nickname, the blush now taking over his ears and down his neck, "Water's fine." He smiled and nodded. John reached over the table and grabbed Alex's hand that was resting on the edge, "Oh, c'mon. What do you really want to drink?" He asked.

Alexander had a sudden rush of confidence flow through him. He would not let John make him seem so quiet, because- God Alexander was far from that. He looked up and smirked, "No, I'm okay." He smiled sweetly at the waiter, "Water's fine." He nodded.

Out of the corner of his eye, he saw John cock an eyebrow, "Your face is still red," John paused, "Cute." He smirked. Alex gulped, "Yeah?" He asked, returning the smirk. John sat back in his seat, the smirk falling from his face. Alex kept his smirk, shooting John a glare that said 'Yeah, that's right. You're not as slick as you think.'

"So, Alexander..." John said. Alex chuckled, John's cocky behavior had quickly ceased, "James sent me your profile. You like to write?" He asked. Alex nodded, "Like isn't a word strong enough." He said with a chuckle.

"Love?"

"Stronger." Alex responded as their drinks arrived. He thanked the server, taking his water. John nervously sipped his drink, his eyes now glued on Alex.

"What do you like?" Alex asked, drinking his water. John chewed his lip, "I'm a psych major. A senior, actually. I hope to be a therapist." Alex nodded, drumming his fingers on the table, "Law major." He replied.

That was when John's cocky behavior seemed to return, "Sue me, Hamilton." He said jokingly, a grin spreading across his face. Alexander sat up, "Diagnose me, Laurens." It made more sense in his head, but he couldn't do anything about it now.

John sat back in his seat, laughing, "You're not too shabby, Alex." He smiled, Alex returning the gesture, "Laurens, I like you a lot." He smirked, "Catch me again?" John asked as he stood, pulling on his coat.

"You're not staying?"

"Afraid not." He shrugged, grabbing Alex's hand and squeezing it. "JLaur." He grinned, giving Alex a small wink and dropping a twenty dollar bill on the table and walking away.
