   James POV

I slid the black mask tighter over my face, and tucked the dog chain Liva gave me before I left into the front of my suit. I had been wearing a different copy of the same suit since my first day here. It was almost completely black with the exceptions of the white stitching that Ran down my arms and legs, showing that I was a member of air class. A pretty decent class to be in since if you could control it well enough you could cause a storm greater than the famous hurricanes Ike and Katrina. The only other things on the suit were simply the black face mask we were required to wear anytime new recruits showed up and a patch that simply gave the first letter of your name and the level you had reached. Mine for instance said J1.

Steven came walking up beside me. The blazing red of his suit seemed to pulse with heat and his patch boldly displaying the S1 that had been assigned to him just last week when he was deemed training ready. Mike made a rather dramatic appearance by shooting icicles from his fingertips into the air. Unironically an icy-blue was the characteristic of his suit with his patch simply saying M1. Eric called us to attention with a sharp mental prod as his lavender stripes clearly were seen. He seemed to flaunt the E2 even though there were others not much older than us who wore levels like 5 or 7.

I here the horn symbolizing that the new recruits had arrived. Those how had earned their rights handed off letters to their commanders to give to their families. Eric was the only one in our group who had that privilege but he was an orphan so he had no one to write too.  Suddenly I stopped talking, my gaze fell to a girl who had just stepped off the bus, her name pounded in my head. What was my Liva doing here?

I impatiently waited as the commanders handed off the new recruits their suit that were simply black with a patch  that had their letter on it. My thoughts were confirmed when I saw a "L" clearly  stand on the suit handed to Liva.

"I wonder who will get stuck in the group." Everyone below a level 4 had been sent out as they were sorted into groups. The people in charge allowed the groups to grow over a period of about five months or ten recruits and then would cut off the acceptance of any new members with the exception of a previous member's death.

"Who ever knows? I don't think that it is fair that people who already have completely full groups are the only ones who have a say in which group gets who." Mike shot another chunk of ice at Steven who was trying to melt it before it got close enough to him.

"Mike clean up that mess." Eric for once didn't use mental communication.

"Really? You know I can't control water yet!"

"Well it isn't my fault that you developed your powers backwards and instead of learning to control water first you learned to control ice. This will be good practice."

Twenty minutes later with Mike still struggling to get the water to even flinch, a ripple suddenly ran across it. "Yeah!! Look at that!!"

"Look at what the commander walking down the hall?" I smirked as I channeled the sound waves so that everyone could hear what I did.

"Dang heavy walker." Mike pulled his mask down as he went back to trying to move the puddle.

"Open up Alpha 2." That was our groups code name. Apparently each of us had been handpicked before we ever even got to this point of our lives. Eric managed to mentally unlock the door before he made it over there, proving why he got the level two spot and none of us did.

"Hello, Commander Ronnie."  His voice was silvery smooth.

"Here, two new members." He shoved in Liva who was followed by a ticked off Joanna. I was tempted to yank my mask off and run over to her but it was protocol to remain covered until the end of their first week. Why? Heck if I know it isn't like there is a way out of this hell hole.
