The Beginning of our Kind

Chapter #7 The First Mission

 James POV

       It has been three months since Liva and Joanna have been introduced to our group. Two more girls Jade and Tara have been added along with triplets Hans, Klyde, and Rick. Jade was a mind-reader and between her and Eric they had established a way to maintain mental contact with the entire group constantly. Also they had taught us how to block mental attacks.  Tara could go invisible and eventually she would be able to create force-fields but right now the best she could do was go invisible and cause anything she was touching to go invisible as well. Even though they were triplets; Hans, Klyde, and Rick had completely different powers. Hans could literally turn his entire body into any substance he wanted to, while Klyde could shoot lasers out of his eyes and was always wearing really dark, really thick, sunglasses to protect others, and Rick he was just as amazing as his brothers, he could control electrical currents.

     We were about to head out on our first mission. Eric was now a level 6 and Liva and Joanna stood right beside him on that level with the rest of us either right behind them and on the edge of being promoted to level six or a steady level five. Everyone was surprised at how fast we were moving up the levels because no one in history had ever done it. The leaders figured we would be at level 10 (the highest level) before we even turned twenty. Usually once you got past level four the rate that you increased by dropped but for all of us it had increased.

    "You ready?" I felt Liva slid her hand into mine from behind. She proudly wore her all black suit and her hair had been tied into her traditional double braids from back when we were in High School.

    "As I'll ever be." I readied my mind for Eric's and Jade's double-team mental connections.

      'Alright team lets get a move on' I smiled fondly as I mentally heard Liva agreeing.  I took my spot in the co-pilot seat and looked around at the mass of colors all around me. They decided that Joanna's color would be violet-purple and due to his rather similar abilities Hans also bore the same color. Ricks was blue with white lightening running down it, Klyde's was orange, Liva's black, Jade's and Eric's lavender, Mine white, Mike's ice-blue, and Steve's red.

     Steve took the pilot spot and grinned as he readied the systems for flight. The main tower came over the intercom as  Rick manned the tablet that Ronnie was about to give us instructions from.  "Remember, Alpha 2, your mission is to successfully place a bug in the German's computer system. Nothing more. Please all of you try to make it out alive we have lost to many soldiers already this month. " He was right we all knew. Since America had been drawn fully into the war our numbers had decreases at staggering rates. Nearly all that was left was the new recruits, Alpha 1, us, about three more teams, and the commanders. 

   "We'll be fine." Rick saw Eric nod and clicked off the tablet. "Let's see what we can do."

   'Liva your up' Eric handed her a small USB drive that she would use to deliver the bug to the German's system.  'Joanna, Tara, Rick. Ya'll are her back up. I want to see all of you make it out alive.'

     By now Joanna could morph herself into any woman she chose. She had tried but had yet to be one-hundred percent successful with a male.  Of course Tara's invisibility would be helpful to get Liva and Rick under the radar and Rick had discovered that if he used the right kind of current he could unlock pretty much anything electronically locked.

      'Alright we are through the outer ring.' Liva's voice came crashing through our mental silences. 'Where do we go from here'

     'First you are looking for the electronic division entrance. It will probably be near a service area.' Mike was scouring the maps with Jade telling him exactly where the others were through her mind. 'Ok it should be directly to your right.'

    'Hold on we are having some trouble here.' That was Joanna. We all felt her open her mind completely to us.

*   "Who are you blondie? A new little guard? Well I don't recall the administration telling me i was getting a helper." A male voice that seemed a little drunk came flooding in.

       "Maybe if you would stop talking I could explain who I am and what I'm doing." Joanna had thrown just enough flirting into that for it not to seem rude.

       "Alright you got my attention." He sounded closer than before.

       "Oh I know or else you would have  felt that pipe tighting around your neck."*

     The mental connection again went silent expect for a little bit of snickering on Liva's and Tara's part.

       Liva's POV

    "Well I'm not even gonna lie. I am beyond proud of what you kids accomplished last night." Ronnie was debriefing us from our first mission which was a complete success. Not only did we place a bug in the German's system but we also placed one in the laptop of a visiting Chinese leader.

    "However I thought we were clear on the whole nothing more part." He had his gaze fixed on Eric and myself the two leaders of the group.

    "We saw a chance and we took it. We have lost two full teams trying to get inside the Chinese technological area. We had a chance to do it without as great of a risk and we succeeded. I know that it broke the rules but it also completed a mission that had been 0 for 2. " Eric seemed rather mad that Ronnie was actually upset that we did a little extra.

     "All of you are on a two week suspension of any missions."

   "As you wish, Commander." I forced a smile as I walked out of the room. I felt James slid his arm around my shoulders and pull me slowly away from everyone else.

    "Come on let's go get a early morning snack."
