I woke up, and sat straight. I was surprised to have even woken at all. I didn't remember dreaming. In fact my mind was blank. I looked around, and pulled a cover up over my chest since I was almost completely undressed besides undergarments. I found myself to be in a dimly lit hut, lying on an unfamiliar bed. Alistair wasn't there. I didn't even begin to think Azeri would be...
"Ah, you are awake. Mother will be pleased," I suddenly jumped at the sound of a familiar voice, and looked around to find Morrigan entering slowly.
"Morrigan?" I said quietly, showing relief in my voice. "What happened?"
"You and your friend were dying in that little darkspawn swarm. My mother rescued the two of you." She replied with a slight laugh.
"B-but I don't have any injuries?" I looked down at my body quickly, and checked myself over to make sure.
"You did. Some of which were severe, but nothing my mother could not handle. She will be glad to see you are awake, I believe it would be wise to go speak with her outside. I am going to make something to eat." She waved dismissively toward the door, then pointed to a chest at the foot of the bed. "Your things are in there."
I rose from the bed, and began slowly putting my clothes on, then my armor. "Did... Did Alistair survive?" I asked quietly, feeling saddened by the thought. She'd said her mother had rescued both of us, but the battle was so brutal I... I felt I already knew the answer.
There was a moment of silence, but it seemed like an eternity as I waited impatiently for my answer. "You mean the suspicious, dimwitted one?" She replied. "Yes, he is out there as well. His injuries were just as yours were. Manageable. Mental injuries seem to remain, however." I listened to every word with relief spilling over all my body language, and almost broke into tears. I hurried to attach the belt which held my weapon to my armor, and hurried out finding Alistair standing by the fire. I almost collapsed with relief, but I held myself up and ran to him. I grabbed him by his waist, making a horrible screeching sound between both of our armor. He seemed to jump a little, as he was taken by surprise but when he realized it was me he quickly took me in his arms in return and squeezed me.
"You're alive," He said breathlessly with evident disbelief. "I can't believe it, I was sure you were going to die..." He squeezed me a bit tighter before releasing me, and looking away. "Duncan is dead. And the King... Loghain's men didn't show."
"What?!" I pulled back and looked up at him. "Did something happen to them?"
"No, they retreated. They left us all there for dead..." He shook his head. I could see the tears in his eyes. He was trying to hold them back, I could tell.
"Do you... know anything about Azeri?" I asked quietly, reaching up and putting a hand on his cheek to better look at him. He was a mess, but even so he was still beautiful...
"What about me?" A breathless voice asked quietly, making the three of us jump. I say three, because Morrigan's mother was standing on the other side of the fire. I just hadn't noticed since I was so fixated on my happiness toward Alistair's survival. The old woman hurried to the blond. She was covered in blood, holding her side tightly and dragging her axe behind her. She was pale, and nearly lifeless yet, somehow, she still stood.
I hurried to their side to assist her, but Azeri didn't seem concerned with either of us. "Where is Morrigan? Is she okay?" She asked quietly, looking around and noticing she wasn't there.
"M-Morrig... Why is she your concern? Azeri you're almost dead..." I shook my head and gave her a strange look. The elder began pulling her along, and Alistair came to assist. He lifted Azeri off the ground, and she practically collapsed against his chest.
