We met back with the family at the bonfire. My face was burnt red and I knew that if my dad saw me he'd know what happened, so I stood clear of him and let Martin give him his drink.
"That took a little long, didn't it?" My dad asked.
"Yeah I dropped one of the drinks and he helped me clean it up, don't worry" Martin said as he sat down beside my dad.
Get over here and hold me.
"Alright, I trust you" he mumbled.
"Doubt that" I muttered to myself.
Both Martin and my father looked up at me at the same time, that made me a little uncomfortable but I was smarting off. And last time I smarted off, Martin slapped me.
Maybe he'll do it again.
I sat down beside my mom, on the other side of my dad since I thought it would be best if Martin and I kept our distance for just a little while. That and we were both sated at the moment. "It'd have been nice if we didn't use gas on the fire, then we could roast marshmallows" I said, I wanted to get the ball rolling since everyone was just silently staring at the fire.
"that would've been nice, but then again we don't have marshmallows" my dad chuckled a little. That got my other uncle to start talking about stuff, then everyone was chiming in with their own little stories here and there. I liked to hear about the family.
Martin got up from where he was sitting to come around and sit beside me, his arm wrapping around my waist just beneath the jacket so it wasn't noticeable. "Maybe when you come to Sweden we can make a fire outside and roast some marshmallows, that would be pretty fun" he said with a soft tone, making it to where the others wouldn't be bothered by him interrupting.
"I'd like to do a lot beside a fire with you, I think that this trip will be a good thing for me. I'll learn new things, I'll get out. I'll be happier, just.. being around you" I rested my head on his shoulder, my arm moving to wrap around his waist as well as I stared ahead at the fire.
"we'll have a lot of fun, Tobias. I promise you that" he murmured, he pressed a soft kiss to my head. Thankfully no one noticed that, which I just acted like I would if we were alone. And that was smiling like a total idiot.
It was as if time flew, because before I knew it. We'd all been out there sharing stories for quite a couple of hours, the fire was dying down and I was getting cold so I couldn't imagine how Martin was feeling. "It's getting really cold out, we should go inside" I murmured to him, my tired eyes moving up to look at him.
"It is getting cold, alright everybody let's get the stuff ready for bed" my dad stood up and clapped his hands together.
I slowly stood up since Martin's arm was still around me, then I stumbled back and gripped onto his shoulder. "Oh ow, the pills wore off" I said through a wince, my eyes moved up to my dad when he looked at me.
"what?" he questioned. The look on his face wasn't a happy one, he then immediately shot Martin a dirty look.
"I hit my head on the counter when I was cleaning up the drink with Martin, and I took some pills. Then when I stood up my head rushed, calm down dad" I said, I was confident with my own lie. I was getting good at this. Whether it was a good thing or a bad thing.
"Do you think you have a concussion?" he asked while walking over to me to lift my head up just a little then look in my eyes, pulling me just a little into the light. "I think you're okay, it's been a few hours since you hit it right? you should be able to sleep" he patted my shoulder.
I looked back at Martin who gave me a relieved look then stood up also, he brought his arm around my waist then leaned in to whisper in my ear "I'll get you some more pills when we get in the kitchen, or do you want me to go get them now?" he asked.
