Surveillance
Chapter 1 Part 2
I awoke to the fumes of gasoline. I reluctantly opened my eyes. I was still in the same white van, but now I was the only person in the van. I looked through the front window. Of course, the van was parked at a gasoline station with tinted windows. I immediately by instinct tried to shape shift into a mouse. It worked! Having my powers being disabled was only temporary! I quickly shifted back to human form so I no longer had silver duct tape on my face nor keeping my arms and legs from flailing. I quickly slipped out the backdoor of the van. I glanced to the right and left looking for bright white suits, I didn't see any. I ran as fast as I could across the empty street. I ran towards an old-fashioned stone house with red shutters; it had a matching red picket fence. I hid behind the fence in the stone house's front yard. I watched through a crack in the fence as the two men in white suits walked out of the gas station and got into the van. Right before one of the men crawled in the back where I was, he pulled out the same black tube he jabbed me with earlier. He climbed in the back. I heard screaming right before the van screeched out of the parking lot. I watched the van until it was out of sight; I got up and walked across the street to the gasoline station. It was black, the windows were tinted and you couldn't see inside. I pulled open the door and walked in. My parents were sitting in the corner wrapped in duct tape like I had been. I ran towards them and took the tape off of them.
"Did they get you to?" my mother asked eagerly
"Yes, but I escaped." I replied in a calm tone
"You did? How?!"
"It doesn't matter; we need to get out of here! Let's go!" I took their arms and pulled them towards the door. I glanced out and made sure no one was lurking outside of the black building. I took off to hide behind the fence again; my parents followed. We ducked down behind the fence.
"Do either of you know where we are?" I asked my parents
"Yes, we are only two miles away from our house, they backtracked; went somewhere far away and came back." My father answered
"That's strange. I've never been back here before."
"That's because we never let you come back here. This is a bad area."
"Oh, I see."
"Why are we ducking behind this fence? Why don't we start walking towards home?" my mother interrupted. We all stood up and started walking down the block towards our house.

"Shouldn't I go back to school?" I asked.
"Yes, yes, you should. I will drop you off." My father replied.
We jumped in the car quickly and we took started to drive towards my school. Once we pulled into the school parking lot. I got out and grabbed my book bag from the car. The kids were at recess.
"Bye."
"Bye, Jared."
I started walking towards the school's playground. I always sat on the bench while everyone else played a game or something. But, today there was an unfamiliar girl sitting on the bench. She had long bleach-blonde hair, and she was tall. Her eyes looked almost purple but that was impossible. Her expression was one of boredom. I sat down on the other side of the bench.
"Are you in the sixth grade?" she asked me.
"Um..Yes."
"Oh, me to, but I am new. Hi I am Lola." She held out her hand for me to shake.
"Nice to meet you Lola, I'm Jared. Nobody in this class really likes me. Why aren't you playing on the slides, or the swings?" I asked while I shook her hand.
"Nobody likes me either they think I am weird." She said while looking straight forward. Her eye sparkled with a purple tint when she turned. Eyes only sparkle with a tint if you are a super human, plus we were in the shade. I was staring at her. She looked at me.
"Is there something on my face or something?"
"No, sorry." I looked away.
"Are your eyes orange?" she asked with shock in her voice.
"Well yours are purple, and yes they are orange." She was staring at me with her mouth hanging wide open.
"What?" I asked.
"Are you....are you....are you a you know what?"
"Yes, are you?"
"Yes."
