Christian's POV

Snake.

A black snake.

That's what my mate turned into.

Did you hear me right or should I repeat it for you?

A freaking snake!

It was bad enough that people could shift into giant wolves, but snakes, now that's a whole new level.

How was that even possible?

She was literally human a minute ago! Like, she just bent down and boom, there you go avada kedavra, she's a snake. A pitch black snake.

Why did she hide this from me? Better yet, why the fuck was she killing off my family?

What the actual hell was going on right now?

I looked back at Freya in astonishment, puddles of questions flooding my mind as I watched her slither further into the woods, and decided to follow behind her.

There was no way I wouldn't get to the bottom of this.

Hiding behind the trees, I watched as she approached the lake nearby. Stopping right in front of the lake, she suddenly shifted back into her human form, her hands still grasping onto the golden vessel in her hand as she did so.

I moved further so I could see her face, but not too close to expose myself.

Freya's eyes were closed the next minute, but after they opened, she lifted off the red cloth and allowed the wind to carry it away. She then tilted the vessel over, enabling the contents of the container to drop into the water.

Ashes.

My eyes burned as I watched the ashes of who I was sure were Kate and her family's ashes being drowned in the lake, a smirk taking over Freya's face as she did so. It was right there and then I realised something. Well, more like noticed something. I noticed the real Freya, or maybe this wasn't even half of it, but watching my own mate throw the ashes of my loved ones right into the lake made me realise that my entire knowledge of her had been a lie. This version of her was not the mate I had come to know and love. This was not the Freya I had seen the first day in the hallways right after Kate rudely behaved with her. This was not the Freya that had been nothing but supportive of my family and friends.

This was not the Freya that I had kissed.

Then who was this?

After she finished throwing all the ashes, she slowly lowered the vessel and placed it on the ground next to her, then rose, admiring the scene ahead of her with a deep breath.

My heart ached as I looked back at her, wondering what would happen of us now. I couldn't go on with life knowing what she had done, knowing that she killed people close to me.

I couldn't exactly tell my family either, because they would want me to kill her, or would kill her themselves, but that was not something I could do.

I couldn't exactly permit her to tutor my sister for the rest of her life until she killed all os us off either.

There was so many questions that were yet to be answered: why did she kill the Summer's? Why did she lie to me? Who she was and how she could miraculously shift into a snake?

For now, however, I remained silent, not knowing what to do, other than watching my mate celebrate the victory of my defeat.

Well, this is a first. I thought to myself at my actions. If this were anyone else, they would be dead in less than a second, but with Freya in the picture, things were so much harder.
