Chapter 4 - Pure Magic

The three of us made it to the restaurant that Jane and her date were in about 15 minutes. It was a nice place. Extremely fancy. When we arrived Darcy and I had gotten out of the car but she had told Ian to stay with the car so the two of us ventured into the restaurant. Once we passed the doors the two of us scanned the room until Darcy saw Jane sitting with a guy at one of the far tables. I followed her in pursuit, hearing something about the guy's last girl cheating, before we arrived in front of the table. The man looked up at the two of us before turning back to his menu.

"Hi....um could we get some wine please?" he asked, staring back at us.

"Sure I'd love some," Darcy said before flicking her eyesight between the two.

"Um Richard this is Darcy and my sister Erika" she said to Richard closing her eyes before turning back towards us, "what are you doing here?!" she whisper-shouted as Darcy dragged a chair from a nearby table before sitting down between the two of them, I on the other hand just kept standing.

"Oh hello" Richard said obviously uncomfortable as Darcy grabbed a piece of bread and placed it in her mouth.

"So, I show up to work at the lab-slash-your mom's house, fully expecting you to be moping around in your pajamas eating ice cream obsessing about you know who..." she said pointing towards Richard. "But you're not! You're wearing lady clothes, you even showered, didn't you? You smell good." She added quickly.

"Is there a point to all this?!" Jane asked clearly annoyed with the two of us, "cause there really has to be a point to all this!"

"Right," Darcy said with the realizations as to why we are here finally sinking in, "You know that scientific equipment you don't look at anymore? You might wanna start looking at it now" I watched with confused eyes as Darcy reached into her side bag and brought some type of gadget and handed it to Jane.

"It's malfunctioning" Jane said with a puzzled expression plastered on her face.

"That's what I said" Darcy said with a hint of excitement.

"Let me try," I said, grabbing the gadget and began hitting on the table top.

"That's what I did!" Darcy said with a smile.

"I sure it's nothing" Jane said as she took the gadget off me and gave it back to Darcy.

"It doesn't look like nothing, it kind of looks like the readings that Erik was rambling about."

Richard look rather confused at the two girls,

"They have a friend that went and lost his bananas"I said towards him. His mouth made the shape of an 'O' as we listened back in on the girls conversation.

"He's not interested, I'm not interested, it's time for you both to go" Jane said starting to get annoyed.

"Ok" Darcy said with a small smirk before grabbing my arm and pulling me back out to the car. Ian was leaning against it looking at the cloudy skies above us when we arrived back.

"Ok Erika, Jane is going to be here any minute so you have to sit in the back of the car with Ian, Is that ok?"

"Yeah but how do you know that she'll be here?" I asked as Ian and I opened the side doors and began to sit down, Darcy sitting in the front.

"When you've seen how Jane works you begin to see how she ticks" was Darcy's reply as Jane yanked the passenger door open before plonking herself down.

"I hate you both" she said looking straight ahead.

"What!" Darcy exclaimed as they started the car, "I thought he was cute."

"Just Shut Up and drive" Jane said clearly not impressed with Darcy. Just as we started to drive off the rain began to fall. Heavy droplets pounded on the windows of the car. As we turned a corner I caught a glimpse at a green cape flickering in the wind. I closed my eyes and rubbed them before opening them again only to see no trace of the cape or its owner. I turned back towards Jane as she gasped before turning around and asking Jane who the guy next to me is.

"He's my intern," she quickly said, not taking her eyes off the road.

"You have an intern?" Jane asked with her voice full of confusion.

"Oh yeah" Darcy said before Ian spoke up.

"Hello Dr.Foster, it's um....it's a great honor to be working with you" Ian leaned forward getting a small nod from Jane before looking down at the GPS he had in his hands. "Um take a right" Darcy quickly turned, making many cars honk their horn at her. "LEFT!!!" Ian shouted making Darcy dangerously turn and making me whack my body against my door.

"I have totally mastered driving in London" Darcy said with a look of accomplishment on her face.I saw Jane take out her phone.

"Hi, Erik, it's me again. Where are you? I came here because you said you were on to something and then vanished." I tapped her shoulder making turn to me as I pointed at myself, "I even dragged my Sister out of our parents house with me so you better have a good excuse for not being here." she said getting the message before hanging up. We continued to drive around the fancy and beautiful old London houses and flats. Crossing bridges before we began heading off to some boring construction site. I don't know why but I had a some what bad feeling about this place.
