A/N: This is a short chapter...
CHAPTER THREE: Movie of your choice
Breakfast is on the table when I get up, Dad's speciality 'The Whitmore bacon, tomato and scrambled eggs'.
"Hope you are hungry, Pumpkin" Dad says as I walk into the kitchen. My Dad is a load of fun, but he looks old before his time. He may be fifty-one and ready to retire but my Dad, Kyle Whitmore is still going strong and is going strong in style. My mum, Janie Whitmore on the other hand is controlled. But she can occasionally let her hair down. Whenever Mum and Dad are in the same room there is a party, which means everyday at my house, is a party.
"Smells good Dad," I say. I sit down and start eating.
"Oh the Whitmore special," Mum says as she walks over to Dad and kisses him, "I thought I smelt something burning."
After a very joyful Sunday breakfast, I get dressed in my favourite jeans and footy jersey. I tie my hair back in a ponytail and run downstairs to wait for Junior. I don't have to wait long; there is a knock at door and Dad opens it. From the lounge room I hear Dad asking Junior ridiculous questions.
"Dad leave him alone" I call as I walk into the entry. Junior relaxes when he sees me.
"Jay, I was just getting to know ... um ..." Dad says grinning at me.
"Junior" I clarify and walk to the door. I grab Junior's arm and pull him down the front stairs before yelling, "bye Dad!"
"Have fun honey" Dad calls back.
"So what do you wanna see?" Junior says halfway up the road.
"Um ... well... if it is ok can someone else come with us? Her house is just up the road from the movie theatre."
"No, that's cool. The more the merrier." Junior replies.
We walk to Ellie's house. I knock on the door and to my surprise Chad answers.
"You?" Chad says looking me up and down, and Junior steps closer to me as though protecting me.
"Chad don't be rude," Ellie says as she come to the door. She hit him on the arm, "Hey Jay and you must be Junior. I'm Ellie."
"Nice to meet you," Junior says, "um maybe we should get going."
"Yeah, come on Chad." Ellie agrees.
We walk up the street Junior and I are in front leading the way with Chad and Ellie behind us. Chad whispers to Ellie.
"She is a loser, Elle. No one likes her. She is the most unpopular girl in school. You said 'we are going to the movies with my friend.' Whitmore has no friends."
"How can you just let him pay you out like that?" Junior asks.
"It is ok." I reply looking at my feet.
"No. You can't take that," Junior says angrily turning around, "Hey Chad, isn't it?"
"Yeah. What do you want?"
"I want you to apologize to Jay." Junior says. He looks like he is about to explode.
"You know your right..." Chad says. Wait what? "But I don't want to apologize!"
"Chad" Ellie says grabbing his arm.
"Junior, don't worry about it." I say grabbing Junior's arm and turning him around.
"Let's just see the movie," Ellie says just as we reached the theatre. Chad is glaring at me and Junior, "Chad just apologise to Jay and we'll see the movie."
"Ellie..." Chad begins to argue but Ellie just continues to stare at him, "Alright, I'm sorry Jayleigh."
"Um...that's ok. Thanks Chad."
"That wasn't too hard was it?" Junior says grabbing my hand, "Let's see a movie."
It is unusual that Chad Murphy gave up so easily it just wasn't like him. Chad sat quietly through the whole movie that afternoon. The four of us hung out for the rest of our winter holidays. It wasn't until we got back to school that I realised that Chad Murphy hadn't given up.
